ws 2080 data displayed

Post by seattle-dave »

I'm trying to get my data displayed via Cumulus, but must be omitting something! Even though I've entered my lat/lon, Cumulus still shows the sun rising @ 14:37 and setting at 2:32. All data is 0.

On my 2080 I had to set the time using the console controls.

Did you have Cumulus install in a file per the note at the top of the forum?

Yes, I installed Cumulus in C:\cumulus (and easyWeather in C:\easyweather)

In the station settings in Cumulus you should have the Station Type set to "Fine Offset/Watson/MyDel etc". Also, ensure EasyWeather is NOT running .... Only Cumulus should be running.

The reason I asked about Easy Weather is my first WS-2080 from the same company would not tie to the PC at all. I use W7 as well.
One indicator was when I tried to do the console setup in Easy Weather, it would not let me save the settings. You could enter the changes and they would appear on the setup page but the "Save" button never became highlighted showing it was active. The console worked perfectly but never would talk to the pc.

Since Easy Weather is working, that eliminates a USB or console problem so either he has a bad setting in setup as was noted, or Easy Weather is running in background noted as well in the above post.

To daj: in Cumulus, I had chosen 'easyWeather' for station type; changing it to 'Fine offset...' didn't seem to matter. No, easyWeather is not running.

When I run Cumulus,
a) date & time are displayed, taken from my computer
b) sun/moon rise/set times appear to be UTC, not local
c) all data entries are 0

I've indicated where to find the easyWeather.dat file in the setup; there is also one in the Cumulus\data folder

Using EasyWeather and the .dat file is no longer supported (it is there for backward compatibility), so we should not use it. We need to get to the bottom of why the FineOffset option is not working.

Easy Weather should never be used -- it has one purpose in life assuming you continue with Cumulus. You need to change the data logging interval using EW but once done, never again should you need to run it.

So Cumulus should just be set to FineOffset as the station type, and the tick for "Use Data logger"

Close down Cumulus and restart it. Cumulus may take a few seconds (up to 10 to show data).

If nothing continues to appear click Configuration and tick Debug Log. Close Cumulus down. Restart and wait 30 seconds or so. Then remove the Debug Log tick, close Cumulus down and upload the debug.log file it created to the forum.

OK, Cumulus settings are set. Since the ew.dat file isn't used, then I assume I need to have my weather station connected to my pc.

When I/we get Cumulus working, can I export data (to .csv, e.g.)?

Indeed. Via the USB cable

All Cumulus data is stored in simple text files (CSV's) so you do not need to export, just use a copy of the files.
The log files are all documented here....http://wiki.sandaysoft.com/a/Category:Log_Files

Your most important ones are dayfile.txt which contains an entry for each day, with highs, lows, averages. The Monthly log files contain data snapshots every 10 minutes

Maybe you didn't have time to do your reading. I tried to read it all but still missed a few points. The help screens on Cumulus are very good.
