CumulusRealtime

Post by Andy »

Hi,
I have tried to get CumulusRealtime running without any luck so far. Have followed the guidance in the zip file and FAQ but keep ending up with this error message:

Line: 53
Char: 113
Error: Unhandled Error in Silverlight 2 Application
Code: 2104
Category: InitializeError
Message: 2104 An error has occurred.
Code: 0
URL: http://www.claxton.f2s.com/weather/CumulusRealtime.html

Can view the realtime.txt file from the directory where all the Cumulus files have been uploaded. As I can open http://www.sanday.org.uk/weather/realtime.txt there wouldn't appear to be any PCs issues, e.g. Silverlight is installed.
Grateful for any pointers.
Thanks
Andy

The most likely cause is that your IIS installation isn't configured for Silverlight applications: http://learn.iis.net/page.aspx/262/conf ... lications/

Steve,
Sorry, but I sent the wrong links:-
I can view http://www.sanday.org.uk/weather/CumulusRealtime.html As I can view your site wouldn't that indicate the Silverlight is correctly configured?
I can read my text file http://www.claxton.f2s.com/weather/realtime.txt.
Regards
Andy

It indicates that Silverlight is correctly configured on my site, and that you have the Silverlight runtime correctly installed on your PC.

The fact that neither you nor I can view it on your site (at http://www.claxton.f2s.com/weather/CumulusRealtime.html) indicates a problem with your site. If you definitely have the files in the correct place then the most likely problem is that IIS isn't configured correctly for Silverlight applications.

http://www.claxton.f2s.com/weather/CumulusRealtime.xap gives a 404 not found, but that may just be confirming that IIS isn't configured correctly, rather than the file not being there.

Hi Steve,
Thnaks for your reply,
I have checked with my ISP and they have confirmed that they "don’t offer support for Silverlight" which I take to mean is that Silverlight applications wont run on their servers.

That's just crazy, as Silverlight runs client-side, it has no effect on their servers at all. One trick that you might try, which has worked for others, is to change the extension of the .xap file to something else (e.g. .txt) and change the code which loads it to match. It surprised me that this works, but it does seem to for some people.

Steve,
Thanks for taking the time to respond. I did check to see if I could make changes to the IIS settings however it appears that with SP3 installed this option has been removed(?).
Anyhow I have made the changes you kindly suggested i.e. changed the extension of the .xap file to .txt and changed the code in CumulusRealtime.html to <param name="source" value="CumulusRealtime.txt?v=1.0.0.3"/>). Interval is set to 30 seconds on Cumulus and CumulusRealtime.xml.
So far http://www.claxton.f2s.com/weather/CumulusRealtime.html opens but sticks with the Data Loading dialogue however the text stream seems to be updating http://www.claxton.f2s.com/weather/realtime.txt.
Is there a simple solution  ?

But that's not the URL you've put in your XML file; you have http://www.claxton.f2s.com/web/content/ ... altime.txt which gives a 404.

Steve,
Thanks for replying.
The directory on the domain is .../weather. This is reached via /web/content hence the reason, mine anyhow, as to why I entered the full url in the XML file :? .
Deleted the offending /web/content and it now works
Thanks
Andy
