There are 'Clear Data' and a 'Clear Memory' buttons if in EW you click 'Record' then 'History'.

Are you REALLY sure you reset the total rainfall correctly?
On my station I can press 4 times to see and reset rainfall the last 24 hours.
If I press one more time I see a flashing number and the word "Total" above it - and I can hold to reset the total (I will not do it, though...)

Maybe some other approach will work:
- press rain sector once
- press the "+" button until the field above the rain sector says "Total"
- press rain sector 3 times to get to & reset rainfall rate
- press rain sector one more time to get to & reset total rainfall

Maybe you will have to step through the above cycle for every option shown when pressing "+" above: 1h, 24h, week, month, total?

Don't think removing batteries helps much. The memory is non-volatile EEPROM.

First of all - don't worry about your watch because it's giving the correct reading! I vaguely remember having to mess about like that at the beginning when I was setting things up. I'm pretty sure I did both, clearing the history and memory in the station and via Easy Weather. Then I binned easy Weather!! I think I manipulated any wrong rainfull in the dayfile.txt, and entered a value in rainfull this year to date to give what I wanted on the display. I don't actually know what the console and Easyweather say because I don't use them any more but I can see your problem if you still want to use the console.

Steve Ref Abs pressure, for info, this is used in aviation circles to give an altimeter setting for the particular airfield in use (QFE), but this is being phased out anyway and Rel pressure (QNH) will the be "universally" used for this function

Hi Dane & dc1500,
Thanks for your input.I followed Dane's advice & seem to have cracked it - more by luck than judgement. I did what you said Dane but had no luck. I disconnected the USB lead & worked through the number of taps in the rainfall area until I got Total. Eventually with much trial & error the word Max came up on the left side of the Tendency box.At this point I pressed the Rainfall box & held it for several seconds & the total cleared. I repeated this for hour, day, week etc. I then connected it to the USB & the max box emptied in Easy Weather. Not straightforward however! Anyway, thank you all for your help - a great forum & I'm sure I will be back soon.

Cheers,

Chris

Something to remember with the USB cable is that even if you turn off your computer, the USB is probably still powered up, unless you disconnect from the mains power, so disconnecting batteries doesn't necessarily take all the power from the console.

morning guys.

Terry makes a very relevant point about the USB connection still carrying power when the PC is turned off. I got a phone call at work when the wife noticed a blue light still on the switched off PC. She is paranoid about my shack haha. I had left a GPS unit plugged in via a serial/USB port complet wuth very bright blue LED. The current will be minimal but sufficient to light a LED or maintain a memory chip backup supply! It also seems to keep an MP3 player topped up!
