Thank you for your respective replies. Firstly I need to keep any changes as simply as possible by way of amending the Cumulus files and incorporating other files. It’s not that this is a problem, Steve, just when you start from zero like I am this is a very steep learning curve.
So, Ray, exactly how difficult would it be to effect the changes to a transparent background as you outlined? I take it there are two separate steps, making changes to the Cumulus file and finding the PHP code?
Synewave, thanks for your offer I would welcome the opportunity to try this out. Could you PM the images as you suggested and I’ll attempt to make the changes.

Hi,
I had Cumulus working OK and then moved to another domain/host on 10 November and all appeared to be working OK until this morning I noticed that the image for the Moonphase
was not displaying. http://www.claxton.me/weather/
The only change over the last few days is that I installed Gallery2 on the server. Surely that would not have any effect on Cumulus which was installed in a separate directory?
Any pointers as what I should check?

Your page has the following, which appears to reference a non-existent file:

Thanks for your reply however since my posting as mysteriously as the moon image disappeared it’s reappeared! I assume this had something to do with the server?
I included the line <td rowspan="3"><img src="images/<#moonphase>.png" alt="Moon" width="64" align="left" border="0" height="64" style="margin: 0px 10px" /></td> in the Index file to remove the 'black box' from the moon image. Please see Synewave's post of 12 September.

That's because the moon phase is now "Waning Gibbous", and the corresponding file does exist.

The beteljuice has mentioned this oft times before - web servers DO NOT LIKE SPACES !

I realize the code that was given depends upon this, but .............

But it works perfectly for me and many others for a long time (even with spaces). I think the problem was just due to a missing file as Steve has said.

Would it be possible for Cumulus to generate a webtag for the moonphase represented by a number? Maybe not just 1-8 but including the other visual phases too?

Yes, I suppose so. The function I use returns a "percentage full" figure, which is positive when the moon is waxing, and negative when it's waning. There could be a web tag <#moonpercent> which just gives that figure.

Just to clarify that these are the file names in the Image directory (all of which have spaces!) uploaded 10 November

First Quarter.png
Full Moon.png
Last Quarter.png
New Moon.png
Waning Crescent.png
Waning Gibbous.png
Waxing Crescent.png
Waxing Gibbous.png

Up until today there had been no issues with displaying the images.

I guess that figure could be anything between 0-100 if it is a percentage.

Could you create a tag that returns a figure that is between 0-15 for example (based on the possible number of suitable moon phase images available on the web, I'm sure there are more but let's not get too complicated)?

Yes, but you would have to define what each number represents, as it would be arbitrary.
