Cumulus Support

After contemplating constructing / purchasing a W.S. for more years than I care to admit (my first plans involved a BBC Micro ) I think I'm about to be tempted by one of the 'cheap and cheerful' Fine Offset products - it looks as if it could give me a lot of fun until such a time when I could contemplate something a bit better.
Maplins have a good offer on the WH1080 at present - but I'm aware that this has now been superseded by the WH1090.
Some research on this forum revealed some old posts which seem to indicate that the only difference between the two is a receiver console which has better (and adjustable) contrast.
Since I would intend to run Cumulus and access the info on-line most of the time, I probably am not too bothered with the poor contrast of the 1080 console if that really is the only difference - it doesn't seem worth paying another £25 for the 1090.

Can anyone confirm whether or not there are any other differences between the two models - or otherwise compare and contrast functionality / reliability?

Heh, I cut my teeth on a BBC Micro, which I still have (somewhere)
I've got the WH1091, and it also suffers from poor (even when maximised) contrast. The important part of the station are the sensors, and they appear to be identical among the Fine Offset variants.
After installing Cumulus, I rarely bother to look at the console, and would go for the cheapest model if I had to replace the system.

I had a BBC Micro too And before that a Sinclair ZX81 complete with wobbly memory pack and tiny, smelly, burnt paper printer And I'm still messing with computers I have the Maplins weather station and have had great fun with it. Probably much more fun than one of the expensive professional ones

Yes, I had a ZX81 too. Programs on a cassette tape, I even took part in the Tomorrows World tv experiment where they played the 'noise' of a program which viewers captured using a mic against the TV speaker and then loaded it into the ZX81.

I sold my ZX81 for just over £100, I was working at Dixons at the time and had wind that the Spectrum was coming out soon.
