Wrong time in the display.

Post by jfl »

Hello,
New guy from South Florida; weather is one of my fields of interest and has been for many years - being a corporate pilot, I"live and die" by Wx
Two weeks ago, I decided to get my first PWS, FO WS-2080. I am very happy with this equipment even though the anemometer is not located optimally ... yet.
After running the Easyweather software from an old W2K laptop, I started to look for something better, mainly for graphs.

Cumulus seemed to be the answer; however it didn't run on W2K and I didn't want to upgrade a 10 years old box.

Finally, I decided to try VirtualBox in XP guest mode (all the computers here run under Linux Ubuntu 10.4).
After having tweaked the USB settings, it runs fine ............ except:

The time on the Cumulus display is off by 3 hours !!! I am located approximately at 26 deg 45' N and 080 deg 14' W (Royal Palm Beach Florida) and the Cumulus screen show the Sunrise at 3:52 and Sunset at 16:59.
If I change the longitude to 120 deg then the times are correct ???

Not a big deal, but it bugs me. Any ideas ?

Happy trails :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::;::::::::::::::::::::::::::::;::::::::::::::::::::

You've almost certainly entered your co-ordinates incorrectly. Have you definitely put W in the longitude settings? Having the wrong timezone on your PC could also be the cause, but it's most likely your co-ordinates.

If you're certain you've entered your co-ordinates correctly, you could try restarting Cumulus. If that doesn't help, please cut and paste the latitude and longitude settings from cumulus.ini into a reply here.

Actually, in your case I suspect it is a timezone issue, re-reading your message. Sorry, I wasn't giving you my full attention, I'm in the middle of making a keema :)

What is a keema ??? Food ?

You were absolutely right; I had assumed that the windoze guest was sync'ed with the host ... Never assume, always verify.

Thanks a bunch, everything is looking good now.

 I did google it, but Steve's recipe may have that secret ingredient.

This is off topic though.

I'm batching at the moment and trying various recipes that I'm not allowed to do when the boss is home. 3 1/2 weeks to go!

I'm keen to try Keema after googling it but there may be a western element that Steve uses.
