If dayfile.txt isn't automatically updated at the changeover time (9am in my case) for whatever reason, is there a way to have it updated by Cumulus or would it have to be done manually?
In my case I still haven't implemented an auto/service start up for Cumulus and the server rebooted overnight after a software upgrade (that's another issue and it will be stopped) - thus I didn;t realise untl 11am that Cumulus wasn't running (the server software etc does run as they are services).

Re: Dayfile update
No, I'm afraid I've assumed that stations without loggers have Cumulus running all the time, and if they're not running at the rollover time the rollover doesn't happen. Cumulus 2 should resolve this.
I can't think of any other solution than to do it manually.

Re: Dayfile update
Bugger
- I manually used the data fro mthe monthly detailed log to create the figures. The only ones I couldn;t recreate were wind run and high av wind speed/time.
Is the wind run stored anywhere in a file before the daily figure is put out? If not, any chance of it in one of the regular files the system creates?

Re: Dayfile update
Whoops - knew it had to be somewhere!
OK - given that it says in that that today.ini will be read when Cumulus re-starts, what does it do with those values IF the time is after the changeover time (again, in my case, 9am)? Does it re-set them as would (I presume) normally happen at the changeover, or will they keep going.
So with what happened to my setup today, the server rebooted at 3:15 am after a scheduled OS update, Cumulus didn;t restart so therefore stopped logging at 0315. I restarted the server when I realised at around 11am - the figure I currently have (its now 1910) for the windrun of:
Windrun=0.972000002861023 - is that for today from the theoretical changeover (of 9am) or from a new start time of 11am? The yesterday.ini file shows:
So is that 12/08/10 9am this morning or yesterday morning? (Only asking because I have already been caught out with the date given in dayfile.txt - todays, for instance, is shown in the SQL import as being 12/08/10 (meterologically correct though!)

Re: Dayfile update
Resetting today.ini is one of the things that happens when the rollover happens. If the rollover doesn't happen, today.ini doesn't get reset and the values just keep going, so the values in there are since the last time a rollover actually occurred. So, if you know you have missed a rollover, you can use the values in today.ini to approximate a dayfile.txt entry before you start Cumulus up again and it has chance to start altering the data.
A copy of today.ini is added to the backups created each time Cumulus starts, so you can retrieve the one from the first start after the missed rollover.

Ahhhh - I like your backup system! Very nice!!! Must admit I read about them before but never twigged as to why they would be written that way. When I read your response I though I was stuffed - I to installed a program to run Cumulus as a service this morning (working very nicely too btw!) and realised I had started the server 3 times after I installed it to check it was workiong - read you9r response and thought 'No - backup overwritten' - but you thought outside the box!
Yep - very nicely done - take a bow, kneel and arise, Sir Steve
