Re: WS2083 Base unit not talking to PC via USB
What setting are you using for 'station type'? The WS2308 is not a La Crosse unit, it's a rebadged Fine Offset - it should work with the Fine Offset setting.

Re: WS2083 Base unit not talking to PC via USB
Windows doesn't think your station is plugged in:
01/08/2010 09:51:46.250 : 09:51:46 USB device, VID = 045E PID = 001E
01/08/2010 09:51:46.250 : 09:51:46 USB device, VID = 045E PID = 00B0
01/08/2010 09:51:46.250 : 09:51:46 USB device, VID = 045E PID = 00B0
01/08/2010 09:51:46.250 : 09:51:46 USB device, VID = 045E PID = 00B0
Fine Offset stations have a Vendor ID of 1941 and a Product ID of 8021,like this:
08/08/10 17:22:55.118 : 17:22:55 USB device, VID = 1941 PID = 8021
Check that the cable is plugged in properly, or try unplugging it and plugging it back again (don't have Cumulus running while you're doing that), or try a different USB port.

Re: WS2083 Base unit not talking to PC via USB
If that fails, it could be the USB cable. Try another cable. Mine had a faulty USB cable.

Sorry, no banner - weather station out of action. Hoping to be up and running with a new home-made one soon.

I'm having the same problem on a AW WS2080 using W7.
Going to buy a new usb cable and give that a try.

Re: WS2083 Base unit not talking to PC via USB
Are you seeing exactly the same thing, i.e Windows not reporting the presence of the station, so you don't get these two lines in the diags files:wd40 wrote:I'm having the same problem on a AW WS2080 using W7.

Does EW not talk to the station either?

Yes, exactly the same problem, no sign of the device according to Windows. In your case, there are no USB devices at all.wd40 wrote:No it is not connecting to easyweather either.

Re: WS2083 Base unit not talking to PC via USB
Sad and frustrating. The console does everything but talk to the computer through the USB. I have to send the console and the USB cable back to Ambient then wait for them to return a unit.
I hate to get excited about a project then run out of chain.
I will report back in a couple of weeks on how this came out.

Re: WS2083 Base unit not talking to PC via USB
I have recently had the same type of problems with my Fine Offset station: not recognized by Cumulus, nor by EasyWeather.
On one occasion the cure was to remove the batteries and the USB-cable from the console, leave it for about 15 minutes, then re-insert batteries and USB-cable. Then everything was OK.
On another occasion the cure was to go to Windows7 Device Manager, right-click the PC-icon at the top and click "look for hardware changes". That found the console (under User-controlled Input Devices - or whatever in your language..), identified as a "USB-input device". Right-click and click "update driver software" - and maybe Cumulus/EasyWeather can now see your weather station.
