Cumulus Support

Totally out of the blue, Cumulus or my Weather station registered 2540 mm of rain! Since I don't live in Pakistan the value has to be wrong. How can I correct the value? What Cumulus files needs to be modified? Do I have to pull the batteries out of the reciever too?

The second thing that would be nice to know is of course why this happend?

Common problem with Fine Offset stations - there are lots of threads on the forum about this. The causes are numerous, but a huge increase is probably down to some sort of radio interference.

You don't need to reset the counter in the station (it's actually held in the transmitter), you can just alter the data files to cater for it. It may well happen again, by the way.

2540mm of rain isn't too bad when you consider that I recently had 29000mm of rain recorded on a perfectly functioning station. This happened on the same night that a solar flare passed over the earth. Apparently, 'this solar flare sparked a G2-class geomagnetic storm that lasted nearly 12 hours'. (see http://www.worldcorrespondents.com/sola ... ted/888559). It may have just been a coincidence and I am wondering if any others had similar probs. Easily fixed the rogue readings using the info in the wiki on the forum as per Steve's link.

Interesting coincidence! So, a better shielded station from electro-magnetic radiation would be high on the wishlist. I will check your links later today.

I used to get quite a lot of "virtual rain" due to electrical interference but since putting capacitors across both ends of the cable (actually on the circuit boards of the units) I've had no further trouble. See https://cumulus.hosiene.co.uk/viewtopic.p ... 892#p25892 for details.

Thank once again for your advice! But the FAQ-url does not explain how to also correct the records page, eg highest daily rain and so on. Do I have to search for the real values for amount of rain manually or is there a shortcut for this?

Open Cumulus and go to Edit>All Time Records

Your old records are in your Cumulus folder - Cumulus>data>alltimelog.txt

Tom , it may have been just a coincidence as not many other users of the forum have reported similar spikes in their data. I'll await the next 'solar tsunami' (as Fox News reported it) to confirm my theory Hope your data has sorted itself out.
