Is there any way to have a transparent background for the Cumulus generated windrose.png histogram image or does anyone have a javascript routine which will generate a similar histogram overlay to a custom windrose image?

Not as far as Cumulus is concerned; all of the images are effectively just 'grabs' of that area of the Cumulus window.
