Post by PeterM »

Hi there Steve,
Great programme, thank you.
My first post and of course it' a problem.
Have been using 1.8.2 with Fine Offsett WH1081 no problems for weeks. Today I downloaded 1.8.3 installed it and the whe tried running it came up with a window noting a problem and to log a bug report (attached). Am using Xp Pro . Tried deleting all and starting over again but same problem, yet if I reinstal 1.8.2 this version works fine? Help please.

Peter,

Yes, I know about this. It's trying to send out the xAP hearbeat message using a UDP broadcast packet. I forgot to check that the user actually wanted to use xAP before trying to send it out. It fails for some people, I don't know why, I guess I'll have to cross that bridge when someone hits the problem who actually wants to use xAP!

I have fixed this in 1.8.4 beta, so if you don't mind using that...

Thanks indeed Steve, that fixed the problem. Much appreciated. I would like to make a donation but do not use paypal, can you send me some other way of sending you some spendollars, maybe I just put it in an envelope and send it directly to?? (yeah, yeah I know).
Just wondered, as I use mine in my astronomical observatory (and I know many that do) any chance of adding Moon rise and set? Does the fine offsett model need a battery monitor?

Peter, you can use Paypal without setting up an account, you can just use a card. But it's perfectly OK with me if you don't want to/can't do that. Don't worry about sending a cheque, just enjoy the software :)

Moon rise and set is something I can add easily, it's just finding the time, and I'm struggling a bit at the moment.

If Fine Offset stations have a battery status, they don't appear to make it available to software, so can't do that one.

Hi Steve,
Thanks for your quick replies, I will work out a donation in the next few days, really want to. I can see by your prolific posts and updates you are really into this and I take my hat off to you and I say a big thanks indeed. I used to use virtual weather station with an Oregon WMR928 and I think the combination of Cumulus with the Fine offset station is a huge improvement over the that set up. No rush on the Moon was just a thought. It's a bit early but have a very Merry Christmas away from updates of Cumulus and with your family instead, all the best.

Thank you Terry
I see what I did wrong despite Steve's precise instructions. I somehow kept looking under the news section of the home page not under the forum page, My apologies indeed to all.

I don't announce beta releases on the main site, only in the forum. I don't want people who don't use the forum to start trying the beta stuff (unless I ask them to).

Thanks Steve,
yep I get that.
I just ran the beta version with the Moon settings and I notice there is an error in the Moonrise in Cumulus.
Sunrise, Sunset and Moonset are within 3 minutes of The Sky 6 astronomical software and other data I have for my location but Moonrise in Cumulus notes 5.27am with the Sky 6 etc showing 4.36am. All my settings in Cumulus are correct and the fact that Sunrise, Sunset and Moonset are correct indicates something else is amiss.
Thanks indeed.

Interesting... You might be tempted to think it's a daylight savings problem, but then why are the others correct?

Could you please give me your co-ordinates and timezone (and whether you're in daylight savings at the moment)?

Hi Steve,
27 41 40 South
153 10 31 East
10 hours ahead of Greenwich
No DST
So that is not the problem, in fact the time for Moonrise is closer to what it will be on the 29th.
Thanks
PeterM
