Windows 7 Regional Settings

There is a problem when running Cumulus on Windows 7 regarding regional settings. Sometimes when the program is started dot (.) is used as decimal separator, somtimes comma (,) is used. Logfiles get messed up:

15/07/10,22:00,18,5,80,14,9,0,3,1,0,293,0,0,1,8,1012,9,45,6,24,3,65,0,7,18,5,18,5
15/07/10,22:10,18,3,81,14,9,0,0,0,7,277,0,0,1,8,1012,8,45,6,24,2,66,0,7,18,3,18,3
15/07/10,22:20,17,7,82,14,5,0,0,1,7,311,0,0,1,8,1013,0,45,6,24,2,67,1,0,17,7,17,7
15/07/10,22:30,17.2,85,14.6,0.7,1.4,332,0.0,0.0,1013.1,45.6,24.3,67,1.4,17.2,17.2
15-07-10;22:50;16,8;87;14,6;0,0;1,7;310;0,0;0,0;1013,5;45,6;24,2;67;0,7;16,8;16,8

I've tried the "Windows 7" link above without success and I'm using Cumulus 1.9.0 build 237.

Any ideas?

I don't really know what to suggest. It's a known problem in Windows 7, what you're seeing seems to fit the symptoms, so the procedure outlined in the post linked to above should fix it. Cumulus just uses the settings that Windows supplies, so it must be getting those settings somehow.

Are you always starting Cumulus exactly the same way? I note that there's a gap in the sequence of times; did you restart Cumulus some time between 22:30 and 23:50, and then the format changed?

Could you zip up the diags folder and attach it, please?

I've attached the diags files. A proper CSV file when using comma as a decimal separator should wrap the values with ", eg:

1,"4,42",2
2,"42,4",3

If I change my system settings to use dot as decimal separator the program will probably work, but then I'll have problems in all other programs since in Sweden comma is normally used as decimal separator.

Yes, I did restart Cumulus between 22:30 and 22:50. I always start Cumulus the same way, from the start button and then All Programs -> Cumulus.

Found some references that you might already seen:

I misunderstood what you meant by: "Sometimes when the program is started dot (.) is used as decimal separator, somtimes comma (,) is used"

I thought you meant that it was switching back and forth between the two formats. What actually happened is that when you first started using Cumulus it was using a dot for a decimal separator and a comma for a list separator (because that's what Windows told it to use). Then, between 22:30 and 22:50 yesterday, it started using a comma for a decimal and a semicolon for a separator. It has been consistently using those settings since then.

So: there is no problem, your system settings have simply changed. Is 22:30 yesterday when you carried out the Windows 7 settings procedure?

You need to remove or edit the data from before the point where your settings changed, then Cumulus will quite happily continue using the decimal comma and semicolon separator.

Following the logfile the has been a change of format at least 5 times during the last week (see zip-file in previous post). Maybe the problem is solved when I switched to the new beta?

Sorry, you'll have to show me that, because I can't see it.

As far as I can see, up until this entry:

15/07/10,22:30,17.2,85,14.6,0.7,1.4,332,0.0,0.0,1013.1,45.6,24.3,67,1.4,17.2,17.2

Your date separator was a slash, your decimal separator was a full stop, and your list separator was a comma.

From the following entry onwards:

15-07-10;22:50;16,8;87;14,6;0,0;1,7;310;0,0;0,0;1013,5;45,6;24,2;67;0,7;16,8;16,8

Your date separator was a dash, your decimal separator was a full stop, and your list separator was a comma.

If you're talking about the data format in the diags files, yes, your apparent system date format switched between US format and Swedish format several times. This is the Windows 7 problem which you have now fixed by carrying out the suggested procedure. That is the point at which the problem was solved, switching to the new beta isn't relevant.

So the point I am trying to make is that you now do not have a problem as you have carried out the procedure.

By the way, there seems to be a problem with your email. I get a bounce message every time the forum tries to send you a topic reply notification. The error is: 'over quota'.

I've been running the program since july 6th.

First change of format is here:

11-07-10;17:50;32,8;49;20,1;2,0;4,8;160;0,0;0,0;1013,6;38,4;27,8;57;3,4;32,8;35,6
11-07-10;18:00;32,8;49;20,1;3,4;5,4;146;0,0;0,0;1013,5;38,4;28,3;56;4,8;32,8;35,6
11/07/10,18:10,32,4,50,20,1,2,7,5,1,121,0,0,0,0,1013,5,38,4,28,8,55,4,4,32,4,35,1

Second change here:

15/07/10,03:00,18,7,98,18,4,1,4,2,0,137,0,0,0,0,1009,1,43,8,23,3,68,2,0,18,7,18,7
15/07/10,03:10,18,7,97,18,2,1,0,2,0,128,0,0,0,0,1009,1,43,8,23,3,68,1,7,18,7,18,7
15/07/10,03:12,18.7,97,18.2,1.0,1.7,135,0.0,2.0,1009.1,43.8,23.3,68,1.7,18.7,18.7

Third change here:

15/07/10,07:42,22.4,90,20.7,5.8,8.2,135,0.0,0.0,1007.0,43.8,24.2,66,8.2,22.4,22.4
15/07/10,08:12,22.6,89,20.7,4.1,5.4,111,0.0,0.0,1006.8,43.8,24.3,65,5.4,22.6,22.6
15/07/10,08:30,22,1,89,20,2,2,0,5,1,148,0,0,0,0,1007,8,43,8,24,2,66,3,7,22,1,22,1

And fourth change here:

15/07/10,22:20,17,7,82,14,5,0,0,1,7,311,0,0,1,8,1013,0,45,6,24,2,67,1,0,17,7,17,7
15/07/10,22:30,17.2,85,14.6,0.7,1.4,332,0.0,0.0,1013.1,45.6,24.3,67,1.4,17.2,17.2
15-07-10;22:50;16,8;87;14,6;0,0;1,7;310;0,0;0,0;1013,5;45,6;24,2;67;0,7;16,8;16,8
15-07-10;23:00;17,2;86;14,8;0,3;0,7;294;0,0;0,0;1013,3;45,6;24,2;67;0,7;17,2;17,2

From 15-07-10 an onwards I've not seen any change in format in the logfile. I've not done any changes in the system date format or in regional settings except for the Windows 7 procedure that I did when I installed Cumulus and once more when I first noticed the problems.
