Not sure how to word the heading - but I'm hoping to have a week's holiday before too long and wondered what might be the best appraoch for when the computer is shut down. Should I try to empty theFine-Offset's internal memory? Do I need to disconnect the USB lead to ensure battery operation is continued?
I am thinking - disconnect unit's USB lead - switch off computer - then on return - restart computer - re-plug the USB lead and hopefully a memory full of a weeks' data will be picked up by Cumulus?
Cheers
James

Re: Holiday recovery
No need to empty the memory - when it's full it just re-uses the oldest slots. Removing the USB lead might be safest if any thunderstorms are around but not sure really. If there is no power from the USB connection the internal relay just switches to battery - so in that respect it makes no difference.

Sorry, no banner - weather station out of action. Hoping to be up and running with a new home-made one soon.

Re: Holiday recovery
You don't need to clear the station memory. I don't think you need to unplug the USB cable; in fact with my PC, the USB ports stay powered when the PC is turned off, so I don't even have batteries in mine. But if you were switching the PC off "at the wall" then of course, the USB ports won't stay powered. But I would still just leave the USB cable connected.
So basically, I would just ignore the station completely: Close Cumulus, shut down the PC, go on holiday. When you come back, assuming the station has been behaving while you've been away, start up Cumulus and it should download the missing data - which may take a few minutes, so be patient.
Having said all that, I don't really consider myself to be a Fine Offset user, so someone else may have some other advice!
Have a good holiday
