For some time now I have been having issues with my Internet connection. If I leave my computer running for around 12 hours, give or take a few hours, depending on the day, I lose the connection. It happens on either wireless or wired, it doesn't seem to matter. If I restart the computer, all is fine again. Over the recent long weekend, Cumulus was not able to upload data when I was away. It was very frustrating as I knew the problem but could not do anything about it. If I was at home, I would simply restart the computer and all would be up and running.
I've decided to use a Task Scheduler to restart my computer every 8 hours to see if this solves the problem long term. I'm using the command line shutdown /f /r. I assume that the /f will shutdown Cumulus without causing any issues, and the /r restarts the computer.
Will shutting down Cumulus in this way cause any problems to the data in any way?

As long as it causes a WM_SHUTDOWN message to be sent to Cumulus so it can do a tidy shutdown, it should be OK. I think that it probably does, in the way you're proposing to use it.

Re: Issue with Internet Connection - Need to Restart Computer
I have been using shutdown /r daily without any problems for about 6 months with win XP Home.
Actually, with Win XP it is 'shutdown /r', but with vista and 7 it is 'shutdown -r'.
Don't know why the switch change, but there ya go!

That's interesting. I got the /r and /f from Windows 7 help. It didn't mention -r or -f for the switches.

'Minus' and 'slash' both work, in XP, Vista and 7.
