W8681 questions

Post by SE9 »

I have been given a W8681 for my birthday from my wife (after nagging her for one). Many thanks Steve for the fantastic software!
Array up, base unit working, connected to temporary website no problems (well almost)

Station worked very well for 4 days then the base unit showed a huge leap in rainfall when there was no rain, from 9mm to 28.8mm total (no TVI or undue vibration as far as the array is concerned)- the temporary website seems to show the correct rainfall, any ideas please?

Also I can't seem to get the "Records" page of the website working. I am sure it can't be the Cumulus software because everything else is working great. I am a website designer and all things look good as far as I can tell, can this be a problem with the base unit not uploading to the PC correctly or am I just being stupid and missing something simple.

Many thanks in advance.

There's a guide to correcting rainfall in the FAQ, here: http://wiki.sandaysoft.com/a/FAQ#My_sta ... it_to_zero

As to what caused it, something must have made the rain counter in the station do something odd. If you upload your June data file I'll have a look to see what it's been doing.
Also I can't seem to get the "Records" page of the website working.
What do you get? A blank page? Have you changed the date format on your PC? http://wiki.sandaysoft.com/a/FAQ#I_get_ ... y_web_site

I have changed the date format on the local PC to the date format of Cumulus, re-boot etc. but "records" on the website still produces a blank page, still stuck on this one!

I have not yet reset my rainfall but I have noticed that the rainfall is displayed correctly in "trends" but nowhere else.

I have included june10log.txt

For information: Once the station is all working the webpages will be displayed on a local community website which is based in New Eltham, London. Hopefully the local weather displayed will be of good use for the residents of the area.

The temporary website is http://www.uglyfish.co.uk should you want to have a look.

Many thanks for your help.

What happens when you view the all time records screen in Cumulus?

Could you zip up the diags folder and attach it, please? And also attach your cumulus.ini file, but remove any passwords etc first.

Well, yes, but I meant in Cumulus, not on your web site. But anyway...

Your problems are all down to you having changed your system settings on the 7th June.

2010-06-14 02:16:38 : Finding raintoday from logfile C:\Program Files\Cumulus\data\Jun10log.txt
2010-06-14 02:16:38 : Error reading Logfile: '9;41;2' is not a valid floating point value

2010-06-14 02:16:38 : Error reading Dayfile: List index out of bounds (14)

2010-06-14 02:17:56 : Error processing web\recordT.htm Error: '06.06.2010' is not a valid date

You started off running Cumulus with your system date in the format dd.mm.yyyy, so your start date in cumulus.ini looks like this:

StartDate=06.06.2010

Your system date format is now something else; I can't tell exactly what as you're running an old version of Cumulus. Probably dd/mm/yyyy? This is the cause of your all time records problem, as in the FAQ entry I linked to. You need to edit that StartDate line in cumulus.ini to match.

At the same time as changing your date format, you changed your decimal separator (I guess you changed the locale?), so now, the system routines which Cumulus uses to convert numbers from text to binary no longer recognise them as numbers, hence the other errors above.

07.06.10;18:30;16,5;61;8,7;1,8;2,4;203;0,0;0,0;1000,2;3,6;23,6;38;1,7;16,5
07.06.10;18:40;16,3;64;9,3;1,2;2,0;244;0,0;0,0;1000,0;3,6;23,6;38;0,7;16,3
07/06/10,18:50,15.9,67,9.6,1.7,1.7,225,0.0,0.0,1000.1,3.6,23.5,39,1.7,15.9
07/06/10,19:00,15.6,68,9.6,1.5,2.4,215,0.0,0.0,1000.1,3.6,23.5,39,2.4,15.6

Cumulus can't cope with any of the system data formats changing (date, decimal, list separator etc). It just didn't occur to me to cater for this at the time I wrote the first version of Cumulus.

You need to edit your jun10log.txt and dayfile.txt to change the entries from before you changed your settings so that they match your current settings.

That's good.

Out of interest, how do you come to be using a year-old version of Cumulus when you only started using it a week ago?

Sorry, did I download an old version?
Will have a look and get the latest version.

Most likely I have spent far to many hours in front of the screen doing websites etc. and just got confused after a 10 hour session.

Thanks

What I don't understand is how you could download a version that old. I released 1.8.9 on March 31st, and it shouldn't have been possible to download 1.8.7 for quite some time now. Have I somehow left an old version lying around? Which link did you use?

Sorry Steve, I think because I was so keen to get the weather station I must have downloaded a version some time ago and used it. That was long before I managed to get my wife to buy me a weather station. (These things with females can take some considerable time for them to understand the importance of the things that we actually require).

Still, she got me one in the end...eh?

Now going to download the latest software, reset, erase, install, remove files from website etc. Think I will start again!

Hope not to bother you again ... well err.. hope not, any way.

Thanks for all the work, help and time.

Latest version of Cumulus loaded - everything working a treat, very pleased - have a look at the tempory site: http://www.uglyfish.co.uk

This problem was down to me. As I said I am a web designer and spend many hours in front of the screen. I have a network of some 6 PCs all for different uses.

What I had done was to load an older version of Cumulus on a PC which was updating the temp website but using a different PC loaded with the latest version of Culumbus to load the site using Dreamweaver, that is where the problem was - me being stupid and not checking versions on different PCs.

Still, all working now, looks great, very pleased with the outcome.

Will update when the site becomes live on the community website.

Many thanks Steve for all your wasted effort, sorry was my fault! Feel a bit stupid now!
