Homeseer integration?
Guys
I am new to Cumulus, but am impressed so far, in comparison to several other options.
I am surprised that a search of Homeseer turns up no posts about HS integration with Cumulus.
Assuming no one has done it yet, I will write something, once I understand whats available out of Cumulus in the way of logs.
Has anyone written any scripts/pluigin for Homeseer, or tips/approach for Cumulus integration? I assume basic logs must be available which would be my starting point....
Thanks for any advice.
David

Re: Homeseer integration?
The latest version (1.8.3) sends out xAP weather reports. While I know very little about this, I assume it makes it possible to integrate with Homeseer - I believe there's an xAP plugin?

Hi Steve
YES!
I was having a wee look tonight and noticed the xAP support.
I already use xAP with Homeseer for many devices (one-wire, x10 etc etc), so can imagine the fun of adding a few more!
I hate to ask - is the xAP support documented?!?!? (sorry, should go look before I ask!)

Re: Homeseer integration?
It depends what you mean by 'documented'. It's in the help file, but that just tells you what the (few) settings are. I'm afraid I don't now very much about it, it was just something I was asked to add, and it looked interesting, so I did it!
It generates messages (once a minute) according to this schema:
http://www.xapautomation.org/index.php? ... her_Schema
It doesn't transmit the 'cloud' or 'icon' items.

Re: Homeseer integration?
Hi Steve
I am glad to say that (part 1) of my Homeseer integration for Cumulus is now working well, and with another user for testing.
It basically reads in your data file and populates 39 devices in Homeseer, so that they can trigger events etc as required. Works across a network too, assuming you share the cumulus folder and avoids xAP - keep it simple!
I am going to provide some graphing etc in Homeseer too, re-using much of your work, so that will finish the project off for me.
I will send you a copy of the script(s) once done FYI.

David,
That sounds good. Can you explain why you're doing it this way instead of using xAP? I know nothing about these things.

Re: Homeseer integration?
Steve as Im also doing the same I can give you my slant on this
Basically the way it stands, weather station > Cumulus > Scipts > Homeseer
If we go weather station > Cumulus > xAp > Homeseer it adds another sytem? layer between, I personally have never got on with xAp with its continuous heartbeat flickering my lan lights and in theory, a script in Homeseer should? be milliseconds faster as its talking directly to Homeseer.
Theres a big buzz over at Homeseer forums on these cheap Maplins weather stations so you may get a few more new members, me and David keep putting Cumulus on there
Once its done Ill either PM you access to my Automation server or at the very least a screen grab.
My aim is to have events run for different weather conditions.. at present I get the data from the BBC and dependent on temperature Kate, the PC, speaks via house speakers in the morning
if the kids should be taking a coat / mac / sunglasses etc.
Having actual local temperature will be great.
Hope that gives you an insight to what we are trying to achieve.

Its as Trojan says, - the script removes the need for xAP, which a lot of people have avoided (for now
xAp is the future direction... no doubt, but its the KISS principle for now!
The script keeps it simple... so I am just waiting for comments back from Trojan on my script before I make it available to others.

You evidently need to be a member of the homeseer board to view the image; I know it's free registration and all, but I doubt many will go to the trouble. Somewhere else you can post it?

Re: Homeseer integration?
Although I've located the script mentioned here (found it on the HomeSeer message board), it came with no instructions on how to set it up or use it. Can anyone help me get this set up?
Thanks!

Re: Homeseer integration?
Hi
I am not at home right now, but you will probably find the original distribution on Jon00's site contaisn the docs.
Richie did the last update to the script so probably omitted the docs.
I am planning on looking at Cumulus V2 sometime soon, so we may just update teh script to support that too.
I have been using the V1.x script for a year now and have no issues with it.

Hi, David,
Thanks very much to the pointer to Jon00's site -- I downloaded the latest archive with the docs, and I was able to get the script(s) installed and running just fine!
Woo hoo!
