How can I view weather diary entries having made them?? I am using the diary to say when I have watered the garden (we don't get much rain here in sunny Cyprus) - and would like to quickly and easily see my diary entries... I keep clicking back day by day looking for previous entries .... tedious!!
I've yet to find the diary entries in any log file - where on earth are they stored??

Sorry you're not impressed with it. It was something I threw in and didn't get very far with it. Like a lot of Cumulus, really. There will hopefully be a much-improved diary facility in Cumulus 2.

You view a diary entry by selecting the appropriate day. If you can't see any, then perhaps you weren't clicking the 'update' button, so don't actually have any? The diary is stored in an XML file called log.xml, in the data folder.

Oh Steve - don't sound so dispirited!! The diary is great - just wish I could view it from the view screen in a comprehensive manner rather than clicking back through it day by day to find the entries. Oh yes, there are some entries there - and I find them by clicking backwards - but I'd like to be able to either see weekly, monthly or all non blank entries as it were.
Cumulus 2 looked good when I used to run it, but am I right in thinking that I cannot use cumulus 2 to keep my website updated, and cant run cumulus 1 and 2 at the same time?? I assumed (maybe wrongly) that only cumulus 1 would do the web update - so I use that to keep the website up and running, and just the cumulus 1 screen visible on a pc dedicated to the weather station control and web updating. No room for cumulus 2 then sadly ..... till it gets fully featured (and I cant wait for that cos it looks b****y great.

Yes, Cumulus 2 has no internet facilities at the moment. I'm hoping to have that in the next alpha release, but the next release is also pretty much a complete re-write, so we'll see...

I look forward to the next alpha then!! Do you have an xls style sheet to process the log.xml file with by any chance - or is there any other way to see the log entries??

I'm just using a Delphi TClientDataSet, so the format of the file is unknown to Cumulus (and to me), so I'm afraid I have no idea how else you could use the file (other than simply browsing the contents), sorry.

Even without a style sheet Excel should open the XML file and display all the different tags as column headings, and each day as a new row. If I remember the file format correctly!

I think there are slight complications if entries are edited; it leaves the orginal in place and adds an amended entry, or something like that.

Excel may do it - but open office won't - or I haven't worked out how to force Open Office spreadsheet to handle it!! So I am still looking for a stylesheet or some other means to see the file in a decent format as I dont have excel, just open office. shuks.

Hi Steve,

Any further thought of improving the functionality of the Weather Diary, I know this is an old thread and it was slated for Cumulus 2, but seeing as that is on hold, just wondering if you had given it any further thought.

I tend to use the Diary to note any modifications or upgrades I make to my weather set up. Like just bringing my new VP2 online. But as others have mentioned, it is very difficult to find past entries of when this or that happened, unless you poke around in the XML file (Which doesn't seem to conform to proper XML structure as it is).

Even a plain text report in date order would be beneficial, tabbed for snow records (not that I'll ever use the snow function here), and then comments.

Just something to think about when you're bored.

Yes, it's still on the list of possible future enhancements.
