All-Time records - Reset to April 2010

Post by Sneezy24 »

I have been running Cumulus since December 2009, and all has gone weel (station is a Fine Offset from Maplin).

I updated to 1.8.9 around mid March, everything still ran well.

Following a glitch when my PC didn't come out of hibernation (Windows 7 HP 64-bit) Cumulus takes a very long time to start, the reading data stays on the screen for several minutes whereas it used to be about 30 secs and the progress bar zipped across. Shutting down takes a long time too.

All files appear to be present, I have reloaded Cumulus and copied the data files but no joy. I do see in the alltimelog.txt that there are only entries for April 2010.

Can I delete this file? Will Cumulus recreate the data by reading the monthly files?

I can zip the data and log files if it will help and send them on.

Thanks for a great product!

Hi Mick, you seem to have a number of problems with speed and we should probably consider this, however....

Yes, close down Cumulus first, however it is not really used by Cumulus to produce data. It is simply a list of changed made to the All Time records as Cumulus records new Highs and Lows. It was only added to Cumulus in April which is why you only see entries since then.

I'm not clear why you would want to delete the file as it is not related to any speed problem.

Can we be clear on what you need solved -- is it the speed issue starting up and closing down?

thanks

Thanks for the response.

The speed issue has 'fixed' itself - start-up and shut-down are as I expect.

However, the all-time records only go back to April 20, but if I do a select-a-graph, the data goes back to December 2008.

So, how can I re-index the all-time records with all the existing data to give me real all-time records?

I assume the alltime.ini holds the data, but how do I recreate this?

Thanks,

Mick

I don't believe Cumulus has a mechanism for doing this. You would have to import the data into Excel and sort it to find the max/min values and corresponding dates/times.

I may well be wrong on this .....

... but I think if you have a valid alltime.rec in your Cumulus/backup directory - then (maybe) if you close down Cumulus, copy the valid alltime.rec to the data directory, then DELETE (probably better to rename !) the alltime.ini in the Cumulus directory.

If I am correct ... :?

.... On Cumulus re-start you will have your all time records from the back-up date, and the new supadupa alltime.ini will be rebuilt.

PS. If you try it, let us know what happens !!!

What beteljuice proposes will work -- I have done it many times!

Remember, Cumulus only keeps 10 backups and only takes a backup when you close down. Better to use something else to maintain regular backups too

Addendum ....

... just realized back-ups since April no longer have alltime.rec - but - they do have the alltime.ini ;)

OK, none of that worked!

But, I noticed cumulus.ini has an entry saying 'LastLoggerDownload' which was set for 20/04/2010.

I found an old cumulus.ini (from a HD from my old computer), closed cumulus, copied the 'old' cumulus.ini, restarted, and off we go with records back to Jan 2009!!! :geek:

Thanks for the help!
