I'm about to extend the cable for my wind sensor. Does anybody know the pinout for the RJ-11 (6 pin) connector on the cable? The original cable is up the mast, (it's on an extender now) and I'd like to get everything prepped before I bring it down to put the new extension on.
The rain guage is close enough for me to look at, and basically the reed switch closes a contact across the 2 center pins (blank, blank, red, green, blank, blank). But what about the wind sensor? 2 wires or more? center pins or others?

4 wires/pins 2, 3, 4, 5. Inner pair - anemometer - read switch on/off - one on per revolution. Outer pair - wind vane - resistor network.

if you are going to extend the cables it is better to solder the new cable direct to the circuit board. before doing this you should check the pinout with a meter. the colour of the conductors might not be the same but if they are they still might not be crimped the same way. better testing the old cable first for its pinout and the matching the new cable to mirror the same pinouts.

ok it might seem like belt and braces but at least you only have to do it once and lets face it rain gauges and wind direction parts of any weather station are never in the best place to work on.
