Barometer seems to jump

Post by hurring »

Hi All,
I have the Wh1081. I have gone to the Australian weather site and obtained Relative pressure readings in HPA. I have set my unit to the same and then adjusted the values. After about 1 or 2 minutes the pressure changes on my unit by upto 8-10 HPA. Sometimes more. It continually jumps around. Am I doing something wrong from when I originally set this up because it then effects the reading Cumulus is getting. Should I reset my unit and set up again??? Does not really concern me if I need to do this as I have not had Cumulus all that long.
thanks in advance for any help.
Adrian

Hi Adrian.
As you can imagine it shouldn't do this. You could try a complete reset (remembering your settings first) by removing the batteries but I don't think that's going to cure it.
I guess it could be a faulty display unit; not uncommon with these budget units; my first one was faulty but quickly replace by the supplier.
They are known to suffer from bad connections on the PCB (possibly where the sensor, which is located in the display unit, is soldered to the PCB); repairable if you are familiar with repairing micro electronics.
If it's under warranty I would be inclined to return it to the supplier, but wait and see if anyone else on the forum has had this problem first and knows of a quick fix.
Hope that helps a little,
Mike.

Thanks Repairman77,
that is my gut feeling that it is a faulty unit. I have not realy played with this too much as I was mainly intrested in wind speed and direction. Now that I have found Cumulus I have taken a bit more of an intrest. What is the warranty on these units? I purchased it off Ebay July 09. I guess I would have to contact the company and not the Ebay seller. Is there a local dealer in Australia or is it back to Hong Kong??
cheers

Hi, if it was bought from a Business Seller on ebay they may be able to repair or replace the unit, but if it's a Private Seller then probably not. Good luck but I'm not that hopeful for you.
