Intermittent USB connection

This has bugged me for quite some time and appeared to be the USB connector on the console. However, it transpires that the fault was actually with the supplied USB cable. Having type A plugs on both ends, I didn't have a spare similar cable to swap with. I caniballised a more usual A-B cable and soldered it onto the console circuit board having removed the USB socket.

LESSON LEARNED... Carefully check the USB cable before removing the USB socket from the console.

I hope this is a help to others with an intermittent USB connection.

Note. Low priced A-A USB cables are available from Amazon.co.uk.

My USB cable was made up at home from 2 of A-B cables, never had a problem with the cable, just with the *poor* quality soldering on the main board. I redid every joint on the board and that fixed it.

I see. You didn't use the cable supplied with the kit then.

I had a really good look at my board under a 3x magnifier this time and the solder joints all looked fine. I did suspect one joint on the USB connector when I checked before and re-did it.

Does this relate to the problems you detailed in "lost sensor contact". Have the spikes now stopped?

I'm afraid not, this is a separate problem. But at least I now have a solid USB connection and can put the console wherever I like and not have that problem any more :)
