The 'rain' problem....
HI all
First post here - I've had the W-8681 for a few months - but only found about about Cumulus last night - what a great piece of software - well done !
Anyway - what prompted the deeper investigation was seeing that the 8681's internal memory was 75% full - so I downloaded the manufacturer's own software and grabbed the data from the unit - then cleared the memory in the unit.....
Seems I've ended up with the 'torrential rainfall' feature... (I think - novice at all of this! <g>) - but the Easyweather software seems to show 10 inches of rain since 29th September....
So - before I further mess up the data I've already gathered - is there any way to
a) Edit the dodgy rainfall data (assuming that it actually is dodgy)
b) allow Cumulus to access and store the data that's now on file on my PC but no longer in the 8681
I've managed to get a simple website up & running - but it's only showing data from last night - when Cumulus started talking to the 8681.....
Many thanks
Adrian (in Sunny West Cork, Ireland....)

Re: The 'rain' problem....
Hi Adrian,
10 inches of rain sounds reasonable in that period considering where you are. We've had a similar amount even here.
Is the 10 inches you're talking about the 'torrential' amount, or is there more? Is it in Easyweather or Cumulus?
There's no easy way of getting data from easyweather format to Cumulus format see a very recent discussion here about that. It's certainly feasible, we just need come clever person to come up with something to make the process easier.

Re: The 'rain' problem....
HI Steve
I thought I'd posted an update to my original question..... don;t know where that went !
Anyway - I checked with the data from Valentia - and they're recording a similar amount of rain
over the same period - so it seems likely that the box isn't lying !
So - I'll see if I can pick up the discussions about transferring formats.....
Great piece of software, by the way ! - well done....

The forum has this trick where, if someone has replied between you starting a reply and posting it, it points this out to you and asks if you want to revise your reply in the light of this. It's easy to miss, and it catches me out from time to time.adrian5750 wrote:I thought I'd posted an update to my original question..... don;t know where that went !

Re: The 'rain' problem....
There certainly was a probelm with the EasyWeather software reporting silly amounts of rain, when there had perhaps been none or very little. The latest version V4 seems to have fixed that problem, but I now see there is a V5 on the web site - http://www.foshk.com/en/products/show.asp?id=41
I don't know what improvements have been made, they never say.
There is no need to clear the memory of the display, the oldest data is simply overwritten. All you need do is simply download the data from it, using your favorite application (Cumulus) at least once every fortnight, assuming maximum data intervals - to not miss any data.
The rainfall corruption problem used to happen during the download of data from the display to EW's data file. Should you have needed to edit out the false rainfall in EW, you simply open the EasyWeather.dat in Notepad and delete complete lines back to a date before the false rainfall showed up - then save it. When you restart EW it will download the same data again, hopefully correctly.

Re: The 'rain' problem....
HI Harry
Thanks for the info - didn't know about the memory 'wrapping round'.....
....besides - I'll probably run the unti connected to Cumulus for the time being
- so it can update a webpage for me...
We make much of 'Handmade in Sunny West Cork' on our designs - so
it's a nice tie-in to let people see the weather data <g>
I probably haven't got corrupted data - just crossed wires <g>
Thanks

That update to easyweather is new. I checked the website 2 days ago and it wasn't there. It would be nice to know what updates there have been.
Thanks for the "Heads Up"

At least now they are taking better control of their updates. Originally they were not correctly updating the Help > About, it always showed the same version. I only noticed the new version because I went to the site to check the link was still there for the OP.

Re: The 'rain' problem....
HI all
Update on the 'combining old & new data' task...
Dane's done a great job of untangling the Easyweather data and putting it in a format that
Cumulus can understand. (Many thanks !)
So now my local display in Cumulus has all of the data available - going back to when I first set up the Station (20th September) - all looks fine....
Only slight problem - the web-based display refuses to believe that there's any daya before 14th November (which is when I set up Cumulus, and the webpage).
There's obvioulsy a 'trick' somewhere.....
I've tried clearing out the directory on the webserver and reinstalling - but that didn't seem to make any difference - presumably 'something' 'somewhere' in the config needs a tweak - andy ideas please ??
Thanks all

What do you mean by the web-based display, exactly?adrian5750 wrote: Only slight problem - the web-based display refuses to believe that there's any daya before 14th November (which is when I set up Cumulus, and the webpage).

Re: The 'rain' problem....
HI Steve
http://www.ambquality.co.uk/weather/record.htm
this one.....
Does Cumulus store 'what I've told the website' somewhere differently ?
As I say - all the 'local' (= on my PC using Cumulus) data is fine....
it's just that the web display hasn't registered the new data files that Ib
furgled for me....
Wonder if that's any clearer ?
Thanks
Adrian

Re: The 'rain' problem....
I wasn't sure whether you were using the standard files or any of the "third party" fancy stuff
As Ib said, his conversion doesn't/can't do anything about the all-time records, so I'm afraid you'll have to manually edit those (they'll be the same on your PC, actually). The 'highest monthly rainfall' is calculated from the data files at start-up, so that should be correct at least.

Re: The 'rain' problem....
HI Steve
Any idea why the 'graph' functions in Cumulus can access the full 2-months data - but the web-based display can only see the last 2 days ??
Thanks
Adrian
Gosh no - nothing 'fancy' !steve wrote:I wasn't sure whether you were using the standard files or any of the "third party" fancy stuff

Re: The 'rain' problem....
The 'select-a-graph' graphs can display any range of data that you have stored on your PC. The normal graphs, both on your PC and on the web (the web ones are just 'grabs' of the ones on your PC) are fixed to show the last 12 or 24 hours, depending on which you've chosen.

Re: The 'rain' problem....
HI Steve
Have pasted in the 'hi / low' values in edit - all looking more sensible now!
Think I'm nearly there - with your help and Dane's help -
many thanks to you both.
Just need to plug a few missing hours back into the data (I sent Dane my files yesterday afternoon and reinstalled them this morning - so I need to merge the missing hours back into
dayfile.txt)
What great fun - and excellent support for everybody - thanks !!
