I have my PC synced to a time server in the US named U.S. Naval Observatory. I was running Weatherlink and the PC clock and my VP2 console would always be in sync. Now that I am running Cumulus the Davis clock gets behind my PC by from 14 to 36 seconds as observed so far. What I think is happening is each time I start Cumulus with "Synchronise(sp Synchronize) Davis clock to PC" ticked then only the hour and minutes go to the Davis console from Cumulus.
Not a big problem so just wondering if this is indeed the problem and if it might can be fixed sometime? Using v1.8.9 Cumulus.
Thanks

Re: Synchronise Davis clock to PC
The Davis DLL only allows setting the clock to the nearest minute, so there's nothing I can do. Except, perhaps, set the clock on the minute; but this would involve either waiting at start up for the next minute, or somehow synchronising with the normal data reading process, which is a bit tricky.
The Vantage Pro serial protocol allows the time to be set to the nearest second, so it's odd that the DLL doesn't. Cumulus 2 drives the station directly, so I'll be able to set it to the second in that.

OK, no problem, I'll untick the option for now and wait for Cumulus 2.

Re: Synchronise Davis clock to PC
There's a program called VPLive which will keep the console time synched with the PC. Unfortunately it cannot run alongside Cumulus (or any other program) unless you use a program called VirtualVP which provides up to 4 virtual COM ports.
I'm running Cumulus, Cumulus2, WeatherLink and VPLive all via VVP. You can find out about VPLive here and VVP here.

Thanks but I don't really have a problem when Cumulus does not sync the time on the console.
I run a time setting program called AboutTime.exe and have it set to run as a scheduled task every 6 hours. The Davis VP2 console is very good at keeping the correct time and it is only a PC that can't keep up with the correct time.
I'll wait on Cumulus 2 as I said I don't really have a problem.

Re: Synchronise Davis clock to PC
I cannot believe that anyone other than me was still running that very old (by computer time) utility - I have AboutTime running on all of my computers (even the one running under Windows 7), neatly sitting in the system tray and doing its time synchronization every 6 hours...MikeinTX wrote:...I run a time setting program called AboutTime.exe...

AboutTime runs on all my computers. It's simple and effective. Great software.
