Hello
I am using the Cumulus 1.8.9 Build 930.
I previously used some/most of the betas before Build 930 and I never saw this error before.
It happens exactly at midnight that cumulus wasn't able to write it's data into the Dayfile.txt.
Opening the dayfile.txt show's that the last line (from day before) is missing.
As I mentioned above, this only happens since the Release version.
Currently I disabled the Antivirus Scanner for this folder, to see if anything changes tomorrow.
I do have the dump created by Cumulus...but it should already been uploaded to Steve.
I am unsure, what happens at midnight. but if I am trying to insert a line into the dayfile.txt while cumulus is running, I get an IO error and I asume, Cumulus does have this file open. So I am puzzled why Cumulus wasn't able to write into this file at midnight. Is cumulus reopen the file at this time?
Greetings
Jan

Re: Cannot open file "C:\Tools\Cumulus\data\dayfile.txt
I changed the way dayfile.txt was written at build 890 back in December, but I don't think I've done anything to it since then.slashmusic wrote:I am using the Cumulus 1.8.9 Build 930.

I don't have it - how/where did you send it?I do have the dump created by Cumulus...but it should already been uploaded to Steve.
I don't understand - you are trying to insert a line into dayfile.txt? Why?I am unsure, what happens at midnight. but if I am trying to insert a line into the dayfile.txt while cumulus is running, I get an IO error and I asume, Cumulus does have this file open. Cumulus opens the file for writing at midnight, to write the entry for the previous day. It also opens it for reading if you're viewing 'This month' etc. I can't think of any other times it has the file open (but I might have forgotten).

Okay, I thought the "Dump-Box" opened, has sent the file because I was asked for an e-Mail address....okay, If you are interested I can send it to you.I don't have it - how/where did you send it?
I copied the line from the day before to insert the same line with the missing date in front....I don't understand - you are trying to insert a line into dayfile.txt? Why?
The second of april was missing.
Mhhmm currently the dayfile.txt is locked.Cumulus opens the file for writing at midnight, to write the entry for the previous day. It also opens it for reading if you're viewing 'This month' etc. I can't think of any other times it has the file open (but I might have forgotten).
Using Filemon I can see the following if I close cumulus.

While starting Cumulus I can se this:

.....mhhmm you are right.Cumulus is closing dayfile.txt
...and now I can edit dayfile.txt and save it.....I am a little bit confused now.
So it seems that something went wrong and Cumulus forgot to close the file yesterday.
This problem happened twice so far. The first time, I restarted cumulus. In the next night, it happend again, but I did'nt restarted Cumulus.
OKay, I will look tomorrow morning if this error happens again.
Thanks anyway, Jan

Can you leave filemon running? Presumably it will then show if Cumulus has a problem with dayfile.txt at midnight and fails to close it?slashmusic wrote:OKay, I will look tomorrow morning if this error happens again.

Re: Cannot open file "C:\Tools\Cumulus\data\dayfile.txt
Sure Steve....will do.steve wrote:Can you leave filemon running? Presumably it will then show if Cumulus has a problem with dayfile.txt at midnight and fails to close it?slashmusic wrote:OKay, I will look tomorrow morning if this error happens again.
I repeated it some minutes ago, closing cumulus and restarting Cumulus wit the same effect:
Before I closed it, dayfile.txt was writeable
After the restart I can see, cumulus is opening the file, reading the file and closing the file correctly and the file is writeable.
I don't expect any further problems this night. I will Filemon run because it requires no CPU and no RAM, so no problem.
I will send a follow up tomorrow.
Thank you for the swift support

Re: Cannot open file "C:\Tools\Cumulus\data\dayfile.txt
Steve
I have absolutely no Idea, what's went wrong in the past days, after I installed the final version of cumulus.
This night, exactly at midnight, Cumulus opened the dayfile.txt - wrote- read - close.
Okay, maybe it was a false alarm. I will check this also in the next days....strange.....

Re: Cannot open file "C:\Tools\Cumulus\data\dayfile.txt
I think it must have had a problem closing the file on one occasion, so that subsequently it couldn't open it again, so it's worth keeping an eye on it to see if it happens again.

OKay, if I can help you to find a possible error, I will let filemon run for one further week. By using Filters in Filemon the amount of output can be handled very good. I will keep you updated...steve wrote:I think it must have had a problem closing the file on one occasion, so that subsequently it couldn't open it again, so it's worth keeping an eye on it to see if it happens again.
