WIN 7 64 bit issues

Post by iancandler »

I've been having problems for ages on my sony vaio running win7 64 bit.

Previous versions installed fine using the trouble shoot compatibility feature but would always loose previous data after the laptop was re started.
The latest build 1.8.9 installed fine but then just locked solid, on re starting it wont even get the data from my fineofset 1080.

Oddly enough cumulus 2 works fine in all respects, but lacking the net capabilities of 1.8.9 which means my web site and dedicated twitter account can't be updated.
It also doesnt minimise to the tray so I dont leave it running all the time.

Any ideas when a 64 bit stable version is going to be available or has anyone found any work arounds that will allow current version to work properly?

Quite a few people - including myself - are running Cumulus happily on Windows 7 64-bit. You don't need to use compatibility mode. You don't need "work arounds".

Please zip up the diags folder and attach it here.

I have also been running Cumulus under Win 7 64-bit without a problem. I was going to update to 1.8.9 so checked the install instructions to see if I should remove the old version or could just upgrade. Maybe I should have checked them the first time as I noticed advice to install outside the Program Files hierarchy with Win 7/Vista!

So I am not trying to hijack Ian's post but thought maybe it relevant and also leads to my question which is can I just upgrade and does the advice about the file location with Win 7 still apply with 1.8.9?

If it does, how easy is it to relocate the folder, maybe during upgrade, without losing data?

Thanks for great software
Bob.

Yes, it will always apply with Cumulus 1, as it is "naughty" and uses its program folder to store data. It's unlikely that I'll ever be able to change this.

It should be quite straightforward - you just need to copy the data folder (once you've found it - that's the tricky bit!) to the new location. So I guess one way to do it would be to install 1.8.9 to the new location rather than upgrading the old location, then close it down, delete the new data folder, and copy the old one over to replace it. You can also copy the cumulus.ini file over rather than having to set it all up again.

Thanks Steve, did that and worked fine - now have 1.8.9 running with all previous data in directory off root. Also copied Backup folders as well.
