Configuration Display & Internet window won't close.
I'm new and have been running the latest release v1.8.9 under Windows Xp with a VP2 using a USB data logger for only a few hours. I am having a problem closing the Configuration Display & Internet window after making a change. I can only get out of it by killing Cumulus.exe in the task manager. It seems to always occur after clicking OK after making a change and then going back to the same Display or Internet option in configuration menu then nothing closes the window not OK, Cancel or the X.
Update: Just now after trying to duplicate what I had said above I cannot reproduce the problem. Maybe now I don't have the right sequence of events to reproduce the problem. I have had the problem about 6 times so far.
Everything else looks good, thanks Steve.

Are you trying to use the USB setting (which doesn't seem to work) or serial, using the Davis serial/USB driver?MikeinTX wrote:with a VP2 using a USB data logger

I'm using Serial using the Davis serial/USB driver. I'm not having any communication problem at all, just either of the two windows won't close. When they hang and won't close I can't click anywhere without getting a bong from Windows. I can't click on the main window of the display either, gets a bong. The only way out is to kill the process cumulus.exe.

I can't think what the problem would be, given that you're not having any other problems, and even 'cancel' doesn't work - Cumulus itself doesn't get involved at all when you click cancel, the system/runtime just closes the window. I'll see if I can find anything about this sort of problem on the 'net.

Same problem today with Configuration Station window. The sequence of events were; Opened Station window, made change to station name & station description, clicked OK, waited for a minute and the window stayed open, clicked OK again and waited and nothing happened, clicked Cancel and nothing happened, clicked X and nothing happened, clicked back on main cumulus window and it came to the front, clicked minimize on main window and it did, clicked restore and both windows opened with the Station config. window in front, now all clicks on any part resulted in bong sound and the only recourse was to kill the process.
Restarted Cumulus and went thru the same sequence and everything worked; Opened Configuration Station, made change to station name and station description, clicked OK, but this time the window closed like it should.

Re: Configuration Display & Internet window won't close.
Perhaps it is having a problem writing the cumulus.ini file when you click OK, and this stops the window closing properly, leading to a problem when you open the window again. But that doesn't really fit, as you're not seeing an error message, and you're seeing the window close the first time.
If you just click 'cancel', are you able to do open and close the window repeatedly?
If you make a change and click OK, does that change actually get written to the cumulus.ini file?
Could you do this: change a setting, click OK, close Cumulus, then zip up the diags folder and attach it. It might also be useful for me to see your cumulus.ini file - could you zip that up and send me it, by private message if it has passwords in it. Have you edited the cumulus.ini file manually at all?

Yes, all three windows each close Station, Internet and Display. If you just click 'cancel', are you able to do open and close the window repeatedly?
The change appears to get written each time although when the previous click on OK doesn't make the window close then I am not sure if I change something else and click OK that the second change gets written. If you make a change and click OK, does that change actually get written to the cumulus.ini file?
I have not manually edited the ini file. I just made about 6 different changes to the Station screen without any problem. I will be glad to send the files to you.Could you do this: change a setting, click OK, close Cumulus, then zip up the diags folder and attach it. Thanks for looking into this.

Re: Configuration Display & Internet window won't close.
I'm afraid I can't see anything wrong. Cumulus thinks it has written the cumulus.ini file successfully and asked for the window to be closed. I don't really know what else to suggest, other than the obvious - don't use the settings screens twice in one session. It's odd that no-one else appears to have this problem, and I can't reproduce it on Windows 7, Windows Home Server, or XP.

OK, I probably won't be making that many changes anyway.steve wrote:I'm afraid I can't see anything wrong. If it does happen again and I notice something new then I'll holler back.
Thanks

Re: Configuration Display & Internet window won't close.
Steve, I should have brought this to your attention earlier, but I'm having the same problem on my XP machine for lehamel.eu running 189(927). The problem doesn't happen at all on my other machine running the same version on Vista.steve wrote: It's odd that no-one else appears to have this problem, and I can't reproduce it on Windows 7, Windows Home Server, or XP.
Even if I open the internet settings window and don't actually make a change and click OK or cancel, sometimes the window doesn't close. I can click on the main Cumulus screen behind and usually close the whole program. However, sometimes all I get is the Windows 'beep' and the only way I can close Cumulus is through task manager. Through all of this, Cumulus seems to be running OK though i.e. updating and uploading.

It doesn't really help, I'm afraid, because I can't reproduce it. And as Cumulus doesn't even get involved in closing the window when you click cancel, and doesn't appear to be having any problems when you click OK, I can't think of any way that I put any code in to help diagnose it.Synewave wrote:Steve, I should have brought this to your attention earlier, but I'm having the same problem on my XP machine
I suppose we could start by comparing XP versions; I'm using SP3. But I guess everyone is.

Re: Configuration Display & Internet window won't close.
Actually, I lied. Cumulus does get involved if you click Cancel. It's possible that I'm doing the wrong thing because the settings windows are modal. I don't understand why I can't get it to fail though; but I'll investigate, at least I have something to go on now.

Re: Configuration Display & Internet window won't close.
Hi Steve,
Yes, I'm on SP3 too.
I was going to install 930 and see if that resloved it. Not as an upgrade (knowing 930 doesn't specifically fix this problem), but to effect a re-install. I've never had these problems prior to 927 on XP.
Just to confirm, I do also have the problem when clicking OK.
I'm surprised no-one else is having the problem.
I won't 're-install' yet, just incase there are some other diags I can provide.

I'm pretty sure that it's not a recent change that's caused this. I think I may know now what causes it and how to fix it. I can't explain why it doesn't happen all the time.Synewave wrote:I've never had these problems prior to 927 on XP.

Re: Configuration Display & Internet window won't close.
Any news about this problem? I'am new Cumulus user and have the same problem with both ver 1.8.9 and 1.9.0. After I have opend a child window and then click on "OK" or "cancel" to go back, I can see the clock on the main window stops for about 4-5 seconds (saving a file or two file i guess) then nothing more happends. The child window will not close. I can click on the main window to bring it to the front but the child window is still opend behind the main window.
This dosen't happen every session but at least approx. 3 of 5 times.
I use WinXP SP3
