Rainfall addition?

Post by dionaea »

Yesterday (1st April !) my rainfall was 2.4mm & today - so far - it is 2.7 mm. The monthly total is showing as 5.0mm. Now, I know I went to school a long time ago & things change, but....................!! :?

Cheers,
Chris

Probably down to rounding errors because of the 0.3 mm resolution of the rain gauge. If you upload dayfile.txt, Apr10log.txt and today.ini I can have a look.

Hi Steve,
Thanks for the prompt reply - but - take a look now - it's gone up to 5.1mm!!!!!!!
Must be going slow - like me. It was not just on the website updating. It showed the same on Cumulus but now both have changed

Thanks anyway,
Chris

From your graphs, it looks like you restarted Cumulus between your two posts - did you forget to mention that?

I've looked through the code and I can't see anywhere that I'm obviously doing anything wrong. I think it probably is just down to rounding because of the awkward 0.3 mm bucket tip. There will be some values where there will be a slight discrepancy (probably no more 0.1 mm) at times in the 'this year' and 'this month' figure. It looks like restarting Cumulus brings it back into line (because the values get dumped to today.ini and read back in again). I suspect that getting to the end of the day would do the same.

Ideally it would just work in 'bucket tips' and the problem wouldn't appear, but this is difficult because of supporting other weather stations that have different sized buckets, and wanting to use the same common code for all stations wherever possible.

Hi Steve,
Thanks for that. Cumulus had been restarted but I restart it so often that I don't consider it anymore. It will sometimes go for hours, updating without a problem but then it stops. If I click on file, when this happens, 'web update' is greyed out.I then come out of Cumulus & then start it up again & all goes well for a few more hours or minutes depending on how it feels!

Cheers,
Chris

It looks like you're due some more rain this evening; it will be interesting to see if the month total gets out of step by 0.1mm again.

My rain gauge mod (like others) which gives 0.1mm per bucket tip certainly makes things a lot simpler

Apart from a couple of threads in these forums, I have details on my weather website (link in sig) then Home > Sensor Modifications or http://ginad.org.uk/weathergd/Modifications.html takes you direct to the page.

I've found the thread where I discussed the development of this :- https://cumulus.hosiene.co.uk/viewtopic.p ... 9&start=10
(I was using Cumulus at this time - the Linux software was not ready.)
