we're enjoying it while it lasts...
Geoff Coulson is running out of ways to say it: We're not just breaking temperature records, we're smashing them.
Temperatures in London since Saturday have been four times the normal high for this year, and with the week ahead -- Thursday is expected to bring a high of 25 C -- the record-smashing will continue.
"It's not so much we're breaking the record," said Environment Canada's Coulson, "these are not the way I normally see records being broken."
With a typical high of 6 C, Londoners have enjoyed highs of 22.3 C Saturday, 21.9 C Sunday and more than 22 C Monday -- shattering records set in 1945 by more than six degrees on some days.
The warmth and sunshine will continue this week.
Tuesday the high is expected to hit 24 C. On Wednesday -- in a nod, perhaps to July -- the mercury should reach a whopping 27 C and the heat will continue Thursday when a 25 C high is expected. Temperatures are expected to drop a bit Friday, with a high of 21 C forecast.
"It looks like we'll be breaking records all week," Coulson said.
Even on the weekend with a high of 16 C predicted, temperatures are still above normal.

Wow, it sure is warming up, if 6C is normal, 4 times that is a whopping 1117C! The temperature scale starts at 0K, not 0C!

No. 4 times 6 is 24. Always will be, whether your measuring in K, C or carrots.

Hi all,
Three new records have been set for April so far:
Lowest Minimum: -1.8°C today (8th April 2012 at 06:46) (previous lowest -1.7°C on 7th April 2008)
Lowest Maximum: 4.7°C on 3rd April 2012 (previous lowest 5.9°C on 11th April 2008)
Lowest Dewpoint: -9.7°C on 7th April 2012 (previous lowest -5.6°C on 30th April 2011)
All quite remarkable values for April here, in the past years April was more like an early summer month with temperatures already up to 25°C, almost no rain and plenty of sunshine and now it has much more in common with late winter, we even had a brief snowshower yesterday morning.
Best regards,
Georg
