A new record, well sort of...
After the pre-Christmas storm snow melted fairly quick and all gone by the 28th, and then got warmer. So far in January our low has not yet gone below 0°C the first time since starting my station in 2008. But that should come to an end tonight.

Enjoy,
Paul

It seems like it either does not rain in Jersey for a long time (45 days last year) or it does not stop raining. As of 19 January we had just had 23 consecutive wet days and prior to that one dry day and 9 further wet days taking us back to 18 December 2022. This exceeded my previous record of 22 days recorded in November 2019.

We had a total of 206.6mm rain from 18 Dec to date and 7 days with more than 10mm rainfall per day and a 21.2mm and a 29.4mm rainfall days. The later produced some rather heavy localised flooding which for a relatively small island with no rivers and a steep runoff was rather surprising.

Needless to say all our water reservoirs are now full having been down to very low at the end of a summer with a hosepipe ban.

Not an official record, but today is the 12th consecutive day of reaching 20°C or above. Very likely that another 6 will be added to that.

Very welcome, considering how bad the previous 10 weeks have been.

Not an all-time record but this month has just become the wettest July since I started keeping records in 2009. 6.95” up to midnight plus an additional 0.54” today.

Since 2008; after an all months low monthly rain in May of 17.8 mm, we are now at an all-time high monthly rain of 187.8 mm so far in July and still 5 days to go. Farmers are happy again!

Enjoy,
Paul

A rare all-time record broken today. July 2023 now holds the unwanted record of being the wettest month in 14 years 2 months of record keeping.

Like Ray, my current month rain record keeps adding up, now at 198.2 mm (7.80") and some rain expected tomorrow. The highest since the station was set up in summer of 2008. I had the VP2 for a couple of months before getting the Envoy/USB logger in July 2008. Got WeatherlinkPC started July 25, 2008 with first data recorded at 4:30 pm (15 years and 30 minutes ago from when typing this) - WeatherlinkPC is still being updated. I started also using Cumulus October 23, 2008.

Enjoy,
Paul

A monthly record broken today. Lowest ever August pressure of 983.55hPa which may continue to drop as the low centred to the south of me drifts slowly eastwards.

That suggests heavy and continuous rain but the rainfall rate of only 2.65”/hr is quite modest.

When a squall line passed through here a couple of years ago my Davis recorded 12”/hr. It was biblical. Wind gust of 65mph too.

A new all-time record for this station. 962.01hPa recorded this morning as a result of Storm Ciaran moving over the southern half of England.

Beat ya 956.6hPa at 04:29. Think we must have been very close to the centre of the low.

I look forward to the Met Office data what the lowest pressure was. No wind to speak of up here. 21mph! :o

Minimum depth of the low centre was 953 hPa at 05:00 just before it came onshore between Bridport and Weymouth. Central pressure was 953.5 as it tracked over Bournemouth and Portsmouth, and was just north-west of Brighton at 07:00. It's now starting to turn left and fill, centre of 954.0 between Gatwick and Maidstone at 08:00. Close to Basildon at 09:00 with central pressure 954.5.

This data from official Met Office observations.

Strongest winds were over the southern English Channel including the Channel Islands, where Jersey airport was gusting 80+ knots (92+ mph) for around 5 hours. Winds have picked up in the eastern English Channel and Dover Straits since 06:00 - the highest gust I've seen so far is 68 knots on the English side, but it is hitting 73 knots at Boulogne, France.
