My temperature record was broken on both days, it finally went from 34.6°C on 2019-07-25 to a new record of 38.8°C on the 19th. An increase of 4.2°C which is pretty remarkable.

(oh, and the maximum average temp went too at 29.2°C - as did the the highest minimum temp at 20.0°C)

Slightly cooler westerlies arrived in Shropshire around 1pm yesterday with my max of 34.8 recorded just before their arrival, which was a degree down on Monday's maximum value. We generally get cooler night temperatures out here in the sticks - especially with dry air and no wind or cloud - and that was the case on Monday night. But last night was cloudier and my highest minimum record went - now 18.8, previously 17.9.

I have just recorded my longest dry period in Jersey Channel Islands, no rain at all in July with 31 days rain free.
In the 9 years I have been recording we have never had a dry July or for that matter any other month and now the drought continues with no rain in the forecast for a while. Everything is starting to look stressed.

Andy, the lunchtime BBC1 weather forecast reported Jersey recorded just 0.4mm of rain in July confirming your post. I guess that was at the airport.

I have just recorded my lowest ever July rainfall in New Milton at 1.2mm. I agree Andy, everything is looking very stressed, trees are shedding leaves and beginning to take on autumn colour. Our acorns are stunted and dropping prematurely and blackberries are very small. I fear for wildlife over the winter if things don’t improve. The brisk daily winds make it feel cooler but add to the desiccation of vegetation. Luckily, so far we are not in the Hampshire hosepipe ban area but I expect that to change if we carry on in this vein.

Ray - We had 38.9C on 19/07 here in North Cheshire - very close to your report.

On 2/08 (Tuesday) we recorded 27.1mm rain for the day. This is the highest daily rain this year by almost a factor of two and exceeds the MONTHLY totals for both March and April and was only just less than January's total. Fruit is falling from the trees and it certainly looks like Autumn out here.

Phil, yes, just 0.2°C difference. I recorded exactly 1” (25.4mm) on Tuesday. Very welcome it was too.

@LindaFNM, can you please edit your profile to include county and country. Few will know where New Milton is. Very important for weather records. 😉

Andy, can’t help with the rain, sorry. Can anyone explain why Andy’s website looks like this when viewed on an 8 year-old iPad?

8 year old iPad might be the problem with this javascript driven website.
Not sure by highly probable.

Hi Ray

I just checked our newish iPad and the website works well enough to see, the layout is a bit suspect but I assume that is because the website is optimised for my large pc screen. Any way the data looked fine on the iPad.
