Cumulus Support

I had to send back my weather station when a fault developed and I am HOPING to have a replacement before too long......

So I'm now thinking about how I go about setting up and installing the replacement. Obviously the physical job of installing the kit isn't the problem. What I'm wondering is how to reconnect Cumulus so that I can continue my weather records rather than starting afresh. Obviously I will have a gap in my records, but I have been manually recording basic 1: Rainfall 2: Minimum (Temp) 3: Maximum (Temp), so I would like these records incorporated as well.

Anyone else had to work through this situation?

I don't really know how you're going to be able to insert your manual readings, and get sensible results, because Cumulus doesn't have a concept of a 'null' value, so when you edit the log files to insert your manual readings, you will have to invent default values for everything else. If you could somehow work out an average value for each item for the entire period, you could perhaps use that value throughout. Or, if you could obtain readings from a nearby station, you could use those instead, but then they wouldn't be your readings, so it kind of defeats the purpose.

What about the issue of running the new setup under Cumulus? Do I simply run my current Cumulus when the replacement is installed?

Yes - the only issue you might have is with the rainfall counter, as it will be different. But as the new counter will be around zero, Cumulus will just assume it's been reset and should carry on OK.

If you do decide to integrate your data it is fairly simple to adjust the month files with Excel.
Insert new rows where your data should fit and then copy the last line above your gap into the space. Replace the records that you have data for and change the date/time columns appropriately. (Be careful of the year format). Save it as xxxxxxx.CSV and change the name to xxxxxxx.TXT.Then if you view the graphs the missed area will just show as flat line. As Steve says - although it's not difficult - is it worth it.
