Wind data

Hi Steve,
Been awhile, I've been off doing other things.
You may or may not be interested in this. Remember the configurable time for average wind speed funtionality you added to Cumulus (via the cumulus.ini file) so that a 2 minute speed could be reported? Well, it appears that the latest Vantage Pro2 console firmware (1.90 on the Davis website) now natively computes the 2 minute data at the console, and can probably be pulled from the station directly (although I have not looked at the latest specs). If so, pehaps a user selectable radio button to use either the 2 or 10 minute average wind with no software computing necessary?
Another idea I had...daily max solar and UV webtags for use on the today and yesterday pages?
Just some thoughts I had along the way for your consideration.
Thanks,
-Brian Adam

Yes, I've seen that, the data is intended to make CWOP submissions easier. There is a new version of the Vantage Pro DLL which supports the new data (a LOOP2 packet), so I'd need to change to using the new DLL before I can access the data. This is a bit of a pain, as I have to extract the index of each function from the DLL so that I can call them from Delphi. Not difficult, just tedious
Oddly, they haven't yet published a new version of the serial spec yet detailing the LOOP2 packet.

Yes, I don't do very much at all at the moment with the solar data, so there are a number of possible enhancements once I start treating the data in the same way as 'normal' data. Perhaps you could try out the new enhancement request tracker?

Slick...I did not see that. My apologies. Should I re-submit those ideas through the request tracker...or leave it as is at this point?
Thanks,

Nevermind...
I just read your announcement from this morning. I'll post those requests in the tracker.
And actually the more I think about it Steve...given the extra work it sounds like you would need to do to extract the 2-minute wind data from the console...your current method for computing those values works just fine (and more flexible say if one wanted 5 minute wind data instead). Would it be possible to round the computed average wind speed to the nearest integer value (5 mph instead of 5.4 mph for example)? I'll post that idea in the tracker as well.

I was thinking the same myself. I'm reasonably confident that the Cumulus 10-minute average comes out to the same as the VP2 value, so the 2-minute one should be the same.

Yes; it should really be doing it, and also when a calibration multiplier is in use, as otherwise it implies an accuracy that isn't there.
