I now have a problem with the USB connection on the console. The connection is intermittent unless I pull the cable to one side and weight it down to retain the connection. When I have time I'm going to take the console apart at see what's what. I suspect it's the connection of the USB connector to the circuit board.
I've had mine just over a year too - bought it mid Feb last year. At least I should be capable of repairing it. I've had the same problem in the past with the power connector on my laptop. The console should be a lot easier to get into

I'm sure there was some comment on this over a year ago (dry joints), someone even had a unit where the pins / holes were displaced by one !

I therefore assume that people disconnect their console from the USB periodically?
In the 18 months I have had the console I have never once disconnected it from the cable! Am I just weird.?

I've only unplugged the USB lead from the console a few times since I had the thing. More often unplugging the USB at the computer end to change computers or for testing. So my console USB has not been plugged and unplugged much - not enough to reasonably expect any loosening of the internal connections!

Well... I've had the console apart and had a good look at the USB connector. It wasn't loose but one of the joints didn't look perfect so I resoldered it. I also checked the fit of plug in socket and it was rather loose. I tried to improve that too. I then put it all back together. However, the problem is still there so it needs another go at it. I'll see what I can do. I'm hoping I won't need to replace the connector. I'm sure now it's looseness in the connectors that's the problem.

Gina....I had the same problem with the connector....unprofessional soldering the cause. Resoldered and it's been OK ever since. As you know, you can see when it is a cold solder joint as it is quite often a slightly different colour or sheen.
