Hello All
May be off the wall question!
Can I read the data files form a 2nd PC running Cumulus
I guess the best example, I have a home network and can I run a 2nd copy of the software and see or collect the same information as if I was at the PC connected to the weather station.
Thanks!!! CKR

Oh yes great software! Thanks a bunch!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not at the moment - the only way to do this would be to look at the data with a browser etc. Cumulus 2 will (eventually) have this ability.

Not sure why you would want to have two instances of Cumulus on two seperate PC's connecting to one station, but I am assuming that the PC that you want to actually process the Cumulus data on is not located near the weather station?
If so, my solution was to purchase a Belkin Network USB hub to connect the weather station to. The weather station will effectively then be on your home network. The PC that you actually want to run Cumulus on can be elsewhere in the house and will connect to the station through the network (instead of being restricted by the USB cable length).

And of course, in the situation where the PC running Cumulus is near the console, you can use Remote Desktop Connection to connect across your home network and view Cumulus remotely that way (which is what I do).

That's sort of what I do with mine.
I have an older wireless laptop connected to the weather station device and that stays upstairs running in a book case in my bedroom. I don't really use that machine for anything else except it has a lot of files on it that I want to keep. I installed a piece of software called UltraVNC Server on it.
My everyday machine is an eeepc 1005HA netbook which I use around the house for browsing and everyday stuff, and I run UltraVNC viewer on that one and log onto the upstairs weather machine. I can then do stuff on Cumulus or view my files from wherever I happen to be around the house. I think it might even allow access through the Internet too if I was away from home, but I haven't looked into that.
I can view the uploaded data on weather underground anyway on the Internet, which is my usual way of finding out what is happening.

Hi CKR,
If you need the Cumulus data files on PC (b) and Cumulus is running on PC (a), then you can untick the ftp box in the cumulus/configuration/internet/files tab and set the remote filename to something like \\[machinename]\[share]\filename.ext where [machinename] is PC (b) on your network and [share] is a share on PC (b) with write permissions enabled.
You can then use the Cumulus data in pages on your second pc without having Cumulus running on it.
Another way is to have Cumulus place the files on a local share and then linking/accessing them from the remote pc.
I hope this is helpful.

Maybe worth looking at LogMeIn Free from
www.logmein.com .
It's a great way of remotely accessing machines over the internet.

Thanks. I used that once a couple of years ago and then got paranoid about making the machine available from outside. It was good as I recall, but I thought I'd sort of made a backdoor into my machine for villains to get in..... Like I say, 'paranoid', but I un-installed it after thinking about it.
