trying to correct rainfall

Post by scientistuk »

Hi guys , my first post however been browsing for ages.. Love Cumulus I must say however It would be immense if it would be made for linux users.. A small problem ..

I knocked my rain guage and got an incorrect reading this morning so ive been looking to edit some files.. I have edited Feb10log and reset the total counter to the value before the false reading. I also reset the rainfall rate to 0.
Ive also edited the today file and rest the Rain total to the previous number before the false reading,, however as soon as I boot cumulus back up it starts addiding the incorrect figure to the total again ...
Confussed .. I have also cleared the memory and rainfall counters on the device. any advice id be greatful .. ta

If you've followed these instructions, and you still have a problem, please attach your today.ini and feb10log.txt files.

Your start of day counter was 142.8, and your Start= figure in today.ini is 142.8, so you haven't actually changed it to compensate for the false rain?

ya i understand what u are saying however i assumed you could change feb10log and reset todayini file back to where is was before the error ...
now if I change the start in today.ini , the data on Cumulus may be corrected however in the feb10logs it will still show this jump ..
duno if it makes sense

I don't really know what to suggest other than following the instructions in the FAQ. Your data will then be correct.

It's a possibility, but not very likely. There's some Windows-specific stuff that would need changing, but the rest is fairly easy. The main problem is lack of time. Cumulus takes up too much of my spare time (i.e. nearly all of it) already.

I'm currently developing Linux based weather station software and may, one day, publish it but that day is quite a long way off yet. A link to my weather web site is in my signature. I would be happy to share as this will be open source. I might add that I only started my own development as Steve said he had no plans for a Linux version of Cumulus. I can also say that Cumulus is by far the best Windows AWS software I've found.

I tried virtualbox for running Cumulus in Ubuntu. I got the USB working OK but had trouble with the LAN which I wasn't expecting. So I could get the station data into computer but not upload it to my web site. After trying to get it going reliably for a while, I gave up and just ran XP. (I'm lucky in having several machines to play with.) You need the PUEL version of VB which you have to download. The version in the repositories is the Open Source one which doesn't support USB.
