Win2K with Fine Offset

Post by diymtb »

First gotta say. Great software, great forum.

After many years of not doing it finally decided to get a weather staion.
Received my WS1081 Friday afternoon. Set it up last night. All connected and set with Cumulus, connected to WU all from my laptop with Win7. All good. I wanted to set it up on our web/mail server since it is going all the time anyway so knowing what I was doing (not) I installed Cumulus on the Win2K server and ... nothing.

I then remembered a mention on this forum about win2k and USB/Fine Offset. Ok give up and set it up on another computer. Worked through running it as a service and all working fine. Still seems a shame to have to run another box just for that.

I started looking for solutions to the Win2K USB thing and it occured to me that Easyweather works ok on Win2K. So installed Easyweather, made sure it was talking to the station ok. Stopped it, installed Cumulus and et voila hey presto and I'll be damned it works. An hour later I have everything up and running and tested.

Might be a fluke but it seems to me that Easyweather must do something to make the USB connection work. Does it work if you uninstall Easyweather? Dunno, not game to muck everything up so it's staying there.

The only thing I find odd is I sit here listening to rain on the roof and the rain gauge does nothing. Overall it seems to record a value that makes sense but that .3 of a mm can take a long time to rock over ... I guess soon I'll stop watching it so closely.

That rings a bell, I think someone else mentioned being able to get it to work that way. I assume you have to do it every time you reboot?

No, just ran Easyweather the once. As i say though I haven't uninstalled it to see what happens then.
Cumulus is running as a service (using srvany) and I have tested it through a few reboots etc. All updating fine.

btw how do people put those neat station update images on their posts like Phil from Crafers (who seems to have written quite a few good posts so I remember him)
