Use bearing 0 when calm
been thinking about this, i wonder if this option should instead work so cumulus records the winds last known direction when calm rarther than bearing zero?

That would be a different option. The 'use zero when calm' option is there because some meteorological reporting standards require it.dexterslab wrote:been thinking about this, i wonder if this option should instead work so cumulus records the winds last known direction when calm rarther than bearing zero?
It wouldn't be too hard to provide a third option, but normally wouldn't the weather station do that anyway? I guess there might be slight breezes which move the vane without moving the anemometer sufficiently to register a speed.

Re: Use bearing 0 when calm
sorry, i didn't realise it was like that for a specific reason.
i guess any software option is not going to completly cure the fine offset vane from flapping around, better i get of my arse and make some changes to the vane itself

I suppose the software could be written to take an average over one or two minutes, but whether it would be worth the effort is another matter. I haven't modified mine yet; bit too chilly here for faffing about on the roof!dexterslab wrote:sorry, i didn't realise it was like that for a specific reason.

Re: Use bearing 0 when calm
yea it's not a big issue, using the bearing 0 option removes most of the 'error' from the vane spinning around at low wind, once it's above a couple mph it seems not too bad
