Low battery in VP2 station

Post by superduty »

My VP2 station has a low battery. What is the proper procedure for replacing it when running Cumulus?

Your Vantage Pro2 weather station has two sets of batteries, one set of batteries in the ISS (integrated sensor suite) and on set of batteries in the console - you did not specify which batteries were low and needed replacement...

First and foremost, Cumulus has to be shut down - you cannot have Cumulus active as the Vantage Pro2 console needs to be placed into a standby mode.

Then place the Vantage Pro2 console in the 'Setup Mode' (on page 40 of the console manual).

If the batteries to be replaced are in the console, then follow the steps indicated on page 40 of the console manual: 'Console Maintenance - Changing Batteries'.

If the battery to be replaced is in the ISS, then open the SIM (solar interface module) box (the white box with the solar panel) and replace the battery with a CR-123A 3-volt lithium battery . Then close the SIM box.

You now need to follow the steps indicated under 'Verifying Communication with the Console' on either page 7 (for a cabled ISS) or page 9 (for a wireless ISS) of the 'Integrated Sensor Suite Installation Manual'.

Just in case you have misplaced the Vantage Pro2 user's manuals, here are some links to the Davis Instruments support site for the manuals (in PDF format):
