Cumulus wish list

Hi, I have a request for future versions:
Is it possible to get a IP connection included in the program?
Today it only has support for Com ports.
I have to use a Com port emulator to get in contact with my Davis Vantage 2.
It works, but makes everything slower. A IP login with port options would be great.

Best regards

In Cumulus 2 (whenever it appears) - yes, definitely.

In the current version, unlikely, because I use the Davis VantagePro.dll to talk to the station, rather than driving the serial port directly. This would mean a complete re-write of the the VP2 code. In Cumulus 2, I drive the serial port directly, so adding TCP/IP connection is easy (same protocol).

Yes, I understand since I do a bit of programming myself.
When is v2.0 released? 2008-2009?

It's hard to say. It's not likely to be this year, although I am thinking of releasing a sort of 'preview' at some point, to get some feedback before I go too far with it. I'm still experimenting with various things.

Good, since I need a IP program to connect with.
I have a WeatherlinkIP connection. The Weather station is going to be situated on a remote place. (Paragliding site)
The data is taken ifrom a house with a broad band connection. using a router -> modem -> web. No PC is used since the owner is overseas for 3-4 months a year.
I want to get data from this remote IP to my home.
Then I want to send the data to my web page. Now I'm using a com port emulator at my home where the Weatherstation is at the moment.
But when I'm moving the station things are going to be complicated using the com port emulator.
I have to figure out a way of setting up my router to redirect the traffic from the emulator to the IP on the web.
Anybody that has done this???

Could this be something you could be looking for at that remote location?
Serial over TCP/IP
http://www.moxa.com/Product/NPort_5110.htm
or
http://www.moxa-europe.com/product/NPort_5130.htm

I have tested these several times, and they work flawless.
I have installed this on several vessels (boats) around the world.
Moxa is known for their quality.

Hi Steve

Two, possibly small, items for the wish list...

1) I note that you have added the inside temp/humidity to the MonthYearlog.txt file... is it possible to add the max & min for the inside temp/humidity to the dayfile.txt file also (and in the webtags). I'm personally not worried about the times of the max/min, but somebody else might make use of them.

2) I note that the wind run has been added into the dayfile.txt file too... is it possible to add today and yesterday webtags for the wind run so that they can be retrieved into a web page too! Historically, wind run gives a good indication of the amount of wind (often better than max gust and speed).

Cheers, Lance

Yes, straightforward enough to do, but not a small change. I don't currently keep track of the max and min of those at all, so there would be all the code to add to keep track of them (including preserving them over a restart), before I could add them to dayfile.txt.

Yes - this is a smaller change as it would just involve keeping track of yesterday's value. There's already a web tag for today's windrun.

Yes - but one for Cumulus 2 probably.

I've added a 'yesterday's wind run' web tag (<#windrunY>) to build 583:

http://www.nybbles.co.uk/downloads/beta ... sSetup.exe

Will give zero until the day after you first run it.

Cheers Steve, have downloaded and installed 1.8.4 build 583. Will let you know how it goes. Many thanks, Lance

It's just occurred to me that I could put yesterday's wind run on the standard 'yesterday' page, so I think I will. Maybe I should move today's wind run from 'now' to 'today', also.

Hi Steve

In the dayfile.txt file we currently have an average temperature (correctly calculated too!). Is it possible to include the average temperature as a webtag so that I can show a summary of yesterday's conditions on my web page?

Cheers,
Lance

Yes, its doable, but I'd have to write quite a bit of new code to handle it (fetching it out of dayfile.txt every time a web page is built isn't really practical). I'd have to remember it at rollover time, and save and restore it to/from yesterday.ini. I'm working on Cumulus 2 at the moment, but if I get back to adding facilities to Cumulus 1, I can add this. And of course, I'll put it in Cumulus 2 when I get around to doing the webtags for that.
