Rainfall Rate

Post by Alanji »

Ny recent extremes of rainfall are showing 0.24 in at 9.13 this morning and 0.36in at 16.25 yesterday, yet the maximum on the 24 hour graph is 0.12in. Presumably the amounts are calculated using a different time interval?
Apologies if this has been asked before.

The 0.24 and 0.36 in that you're quoting are presumably rates, i.e. in/hr? And the 0.12 is also a rate, in/hr? If so, then the answer is that the points plotted on the graph, are simply snapshots of the values at the time the point was added to the graph, so may not include any extremes. This is the same for all of the graphs; not every reading is plotted.
