Is your friend going to that URL or http://lalocherie.com/weather/CumulusRealtime.html?

If you want the latter to work you need to see this: https://cumulus.hosiene.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=1495

Hi,

I am the friend who's trying to access Helen's Realtime page.

I have left the screen on Loading data now for over 10 mins, tried it on an XP machine and also a Vista machine.

As Helen has said, I can access my own Realtime page without much delay.

Hope this helps.

Paul

It's working for me on Win 7 with IE8, FF 3.6, Safari and also on a Mac with Safari & FF 3.6

Visiting http://www.lalocherie.com/weather/CumulusRealtime.html

Dropping the www fails (for the reason Steve points out above)

Helen, on a side note you have some 'rubbish' at the top of the HTML page ... which you should get rid of

David, that is easier written than done... For months (indeed months) I had those characters appearing at the top of all my pages and the only way I had found for those characters not to be seen was to have black characters on a black background - or at least for the top of the pages... :(

Unfortunately, those characters are completely invisible in most HTML/PHP/CSS editors, even when the editors are setup to show hidden characters...

Eventually, I loaded the code for my pages into a different editor I was testing and, lo and behold, I was able to see those 3 mysterious characters. I have since bought that editor although it has never been my primary editor.

In an older message from Steve, if I remember correctly (and my memory is not what it used to be) I was told that those characters are the representation of '@charset "UTF-8";'...

Fortunately, I have not been 'infected' since the 'eradication' those characters... :)

Thanks all for your help.

I have loaded the clientaccesspolicy.xml as suggested. Just spoken to Paul who can now see everything so that must have worked. I hadn't realised that my links on my pages must point to http://lalocherie without the www, although, when I click them here it shows the www so I thought that one was covered.

Thanks Steve for the clever web page, genius as ever.

David, I can see the rubbish at the top of my html when I veiw source on the site, through Firefox, but there is nothing in my html page if I open it in a txt editor. Just tried IE, but no rubbish on that. Any ideas?

Ray, was that visible just in Firefox, or IE as well? I have been using Notepad++ so far. It's irritating although reasonably well camouflaged on the picture I suppose.

In Notepad++, look under the 'encoding' menu. You probably have the file set as 'Encode in UTF-8', i.e. with the BOM (Byte Order Mark). The BOM is that three-byte 'garbage'. You could try changing it to 'Encode in UTF-8 without BOM'.

Odd how it was only FF that showed it off

IE, Safari and Chrome on PC or Mac didn't

Glad it is fixed

Helen, I do not know ... it was gone before I was able to check it out... :(

Hi Ray,

sorry, I meant when you had the problem did you ever see a difference between web browsers, like I had. Luckily since then Steve found a solution. Thanks for your response.

Yes David, I can cope with problems that are consistent..........comes from my early career as a mainframe programmer, I knew where I stood then, it was either right or wrong.

Helen, first, you have nothing to be sorry, so please stop saying/writing you are sorry...

The only (recent) time I saw those ASCII characters was when I read your message about a friend not being to able to view the realtime gauges ... although the link you provided would take use to the Cumulus Silverlight realtime screen page and not the realtime gauges page ... well, you should know better from your early career as a mainframe programmer to tell us something is wrong when you point us to something else...

So, I clicked on the link you provided and saw that Cumulus Silverlight realtime page was displaying correctly. But then, I noticed that garbage on the top left corner. And when I was about to point it out, I saw David's message. And by the time you asked me if those characters were just visible in Firefox, or also visible in IE (I have the 4 main browsers installed on my computer, ie: Firefox, Opera, Google Chrome and by default Internet Explorer), the characters had been removed from the page (you must have edited the page by then). Thus my reply that I did not know as it was gone before I could check further... :)

But then, you better explained yourself ... 8-) ... by asking the more relevant question if I had seen the characters in other browsers when I, myself, had been 'infected' by those characters... ... well, that was a few years back, when my memory was better at retaining trivial stuff like that...

I really cannot remember if the characters would display in other browsers (Firefox and Opera were the only 2 browsers I would test my pages with then) ... all I cared about, then, was to make the characters disappeared... ... but I guess the characters were probably visible in the 2 browsers I used and probably not in Internet Explorer... :(

I know I am now really going off subject but I could not leave you this way without making a comment about the 'gites' of which pictures are available/displayed/shown on your ' La Locherie' Web site - they look gorgeous and something I would have liked to own and live in years ago... :)
