Davis VP2 - FTP weather data straight to Cumulus webpage

Post by NickUK »

Hi Newbie here,

Sorry if this has been asked before, but can anyone tell me.

Is it possible for Davis VP2 to FTP weather data straight to a Cumulus Webpage?

I have a house in Italy and have recently bought a VP2 (yet to deploy), we have a mobile broadband internet connection in the house as ADSL is not possible as too remote. I would like to send data from the VP2 straight to a Cumulus webpage without having to run a PC in the house the whole time when we are not there.

The Cumulus software looks very good and I would like to use the web templates to show the data on my webpage, Can any one help?

Many thanks,

Nick.

The VP2 has no built-in ftp, so it can't be done. You can buy a 'Weatherlink IP', which does have built-in ftp, but that can only ftp to the Davis 'weatherlink.com' site. To use Cumulus and hence the Cumulus web templates, you need to have a PC running.

Oh dear. I think that's answered one of my questions as well.

I work away from home a lot and want to keep an eye on the weather etc without leaving too much on when I'm not there.

Is there any way you can 'share' the data stream sent to Weather Underground from the WeatherLink?

Share & Enjoy.

Do you mean the stuff the WeatherlinkIP uploads? It doesn't go to to Weather Underground, it goes to the Davis weatherlink.com site, so once the data is there, you can do whatever you want with it. So I guess that probably does what you're looking for?

How about using a pico PC, relatively low cost and low power consumption.

The WeatherLinkIP needs to be connected to a router. Once registered, it send its data to the Davis WeatherLink Web site (as indicated by Steve).

What I have been doing, thought, is connecting my Cumulus to the WeatherLinkIP using the IP address assigned to my router - I only had to forward a port to the local address assigned to the WeatherLinkIP.

So, Cumulus, using the TCP/IP setting, is getting its weather data from the WeatherLinkIP.

But one has to remember that the communications from the WeatherLinkIP are not overly fast...

By the way, even without using Cumulus, I can get the weather information from my station by using the direct link to my page on the Davis WeatherLink Web site. This is what the page looks like:

gemini06720 - Thanks for the information. I am using the WeatherLinkIP connected directly to my router which is left on all the time for other reasons anyway. I check the data at my Weather Underground (http://www.wunderground.com/weatherstat ... =IPLYMOUT2) page when I am away. I was hoping to be able to design my own website with Cumulus but WITHOUT having to have a computer on all the time at home.

RCE - haven't thought about using a Pico PC. May have to resort to that if I can't get anywhere else.

Still investigating.

Share & Enjoy.

So, the data from your weather station is sent out 'all the time' over the Internet to the Davis WeatherLink Web site. And from the Davis WeatherLink Web site it is sent out to the Weather Underground Web site.

Just to clarify that the weather data from your weather station is NOT sent out directly to the Weather Underground Web site...

Sorry, I cannot understand you logic...

You would like to design your own Web site using Cumulus but you want to do that without using a computer!

How were you planning to operate/run Cumulus to produce the required files for a Web site?

Since the weather data from your weather station is already sent out over the Internet, it is a matter of finding out the IP address of the outgoing router/modem and setup Cumulus to get its weather data from that IP address - Cumulus certainly does not need to be in the same room nor in the same country where the weather station is located...

If I have misunderstood your intentions, could you please clarify... :?
