Wind speed spares

Post by tristram »

I was moving my WH1080 today and my helper dropped the lot, which resulted in a broken wind speed sensor. I see that there is a spare available for the Watson W-8681 from http://www.radioworld.co.uk. Does anyone know if these are compatible with my WH1080 or where I might find spares for it?

Ta hopefully

It's hard to tell from the page. Clicking on 'enlarge image' just gives you the same size image!! However as far as I know this range are basically all the same (rebadged kit)

What bit of the thing is damaged? the cups, and arm or the actual sensor itself?

This happens to me using Firefox. However in IE8 the new window allows you to resize the image upto 400%.

Having said that, the resolution is so poor that you still can't really make the detail out.

One of the cups has broken off its arm and into a number of bits.

Hmmm, I'm beginning to wonder if it wouldn't be worthwhile buying a few of these units and parting them out for spare parts. Perhaps it might be a good idea to start a thread on who needs what and see if there is the demand for this. Unfortunately as I'm in Oz I'm not in the best location to do this as shipping may make it not worthwhile from here. We do this for Jeeps on my Jeep forum. (yes I know I'm weird Daj!! )

The iPhone advert says "there is an app for that". Phil says "there is a forum for that"

Good idea re spares

I can get spare parts for the external sensors, depending on RF version as used in New Zealand, or equivalent.

I had a similar problem with one of my anemometers (I have 2 set ups) a month ago due to the freezing weather.
I shook the pole to dislodge snow and... one cup fell off. The actual cup breaking at the point of attachment to the "arm".
Being extremely mean........ I used an epoxy resin adhesive bulding up an area around the joint for support (I added a blob to each of the other cups to help balance).
So far been working ok.. and survived 60 Knot winds and more freezing snow etc

I phoned them up this morning and asked. They say its the same unit so I've ordered one. I'll let you know if it is when it arrives.

(I can't glue the cup back on because it broke up into lots of bits and I don't have an army of Iranians to sort it out for me)

The spare is identical to the original and works perfectly :)
