Comms Problem with WH1081

Post by cassia »

I have had this problem where Cumulus would start, but get stuck at the downloading data msgbox. It would not download any data and had to be forced to close each time. I have a Digitech station, which is a WH-1081 I suspect.

When I looked in the diags file (it was huge) it would have many repeated lines like this:

2010-01-30 12:28:45 : Request EW data block, addr = 000000
2010-01-30 12:28:45 : EWUSB: EW startup data line 01 A1 55 D0 20 A1 55 D0 20
2010-01-30 12:28:45 : EWUSB: EW startup data line 02 55 AA FF FF FF FF FF FF
2010-01-30 12:28:45 : EWUSB: EW startup data line 03 0F 20 02 22 11 00 00 05
2010-01-30 12:28:45 : EWUSB: EW startup data line 04 10 00 00 7C 0E 00 60 F6
2010-01-30 12:28:46 : EWUSB: Bad startup block 0, discarding. Byte 0 = A1 Byte 0 = 55

Cumulus 2 would connect every time and download data happily. I have the restart option selected, run XP-SP3. I don't think I ran the two Cumulus versions at the same time, but may have once.

The solution was to use Easyweather to clear the device memory and Cumulus is now up and working again.

Is there a way to have done this with Cumulus? Any idea why Cumulus 2 worked fine?

The lines of data are coming out of sequence (or out of sync, at least) - the line numbered 02 is the first one that Cumulus expects.

No, Cumulus can only read from the station, I don't know how to clear the memory.

Only that Cumulus 2 is different in every way, and uses completely different code to read from the USB. You might have thought that once Cumulus 2 had got things into sync, Cumulus 1 would have been OK, but there was clearly something going on in the station that was causing it problems.

Does this all relate to the problems I was having with directx9 in XP? Where I had to unplug the console to be able to start directx games like Trackmania? Could plug back in when the game was running.
Something to do with directinput.
Fine Offset said it was only a problem in XP and it worked ok with Vista and probably w7.
Still seems to me that the console has usb compatibility problems.

I can't remember what the symptoms of your problem were, Terry, whether they were the same as this or whether the station just couldn't be found at all. Some people using Windows 2000 had this problem.

I can't see a connection between that problem and this. It's possible that the console isn't 100% conformant to the USB spec, I suppose, leading to both problems.
