In case anyone hasn't seen this the Met Office is updating the WOW system.

"Dear Weather Observations Website (WOW) user,

We are writing to notify you that on 10 March 2025 we will be releasing an upgrade to the WOW system that will change the way you log in.

All users will be required to set up a new login and migrate their accounts as part of this process. You will be able to set up your new login either through a social media account or through our new Met Office WOW login system.

Users who do not complete this process by 10 April 2025 may lose access to their accounts.

We will send you another email providing details about how to do this successfully when the migration is live, followed by an additional reminder ahead of the 10 April."

I’ve written to them asking what will change. My Station ID and password are saved in cumulus.ini. If those require changing it seems a straightforward process.

Mine is the original C1. We’ll know more when the instructions arrive.

I’ve had a reply. This is the important bit…

“ The change that has been announced from next Monday is about the physical log in to the system and everything else will remain unchanged. ”

Sounds like automated system logins remain unchanged.

I thought this was supposed to have happened at 2pm today, but as of yet nothing seems to have happened.

There's an update on the WOW site at 5pm, see previous link above. They are having some problems.

My last update to WOW was at 17:45 today. Seems it's not just physical logins having problems.

I'm only just catching up with this..

Is the migration thing available, or do we have to wait for the completed update?

You have to wait. Looks like it may be tomorrow as it currently says "System Upgrade Log in system update is in progress with slight delays. We will advise when complete. Thank you for your patience.".

Update on their website.

UPDATE (11th March 8am): The WOW login upgrade is still in progress. As ever we appreciate your ongoing patience, making a significant change to the site is never straightforward, and we apologize for the inconvenience

I hope you find this helpful.

Kind regards
Michael

Weather updates are continuing. It’s only our logins that are affected.

Indeed. WOW is going to use a new Auth system - it is currently using an in-house developed method that is shared with a number of systems, and is being migrated to something more up to date, robust and flexible. You will be able to log in using a number of methods.

Obviously they are having problems!!
We have taken the decision to rollback our earlier release in order to fix the above error without causing additional disruption to users. We are working hard to investigate it and will put out more communications once we have successfully implemented a fix for it.

Sounds like they need a Mark Beta Test!!
