Just tried to open the forum and it timed out taking too long, second attempt instant opening and now adding this it is running fast. So looks like initial connect is the issue which certainly seems to me to be the case although timeout has only happened once initial opening has always seems the slow part.

The same thing happened to me just now. It reminded me of an old hard disk needing to spin up from sleep mode.

Yesterday and this morning the forum had difficulty responding.

And then, when in, the problem/delay is away. Seems as if it has something to do with recognition.
Are we diverted through some security/foreign country channel? Broken cable? Check routing?

Yes sometimes it is the initial access which is slow, it is very variable.

Agreed - slow to respond at times when first accessed then seems to speed up once accessed

Pinpointing to where it is slow: when I open the forum in a new browser instance and then every new - existing or new - thread I open is slow. When reading the thread it is OK wrt speed. When posting a message, the forum is slow.

Could this have anything to do with UK’s 2023 online safety act where any request is parsed first by the enforcer? Apparently only recently the enforcement is implemented. Enforcement only can take place if they follow and parse forums with user input.

Or:

Other sites I am on have no such issue so it also can be something specific with the provider or the forum software.
@freddie: what do you have on monitoring the forum technically on timing?

Edit: this was a very fast post actually :groan:

It's almost unusable at the moment - browser is giving frequent timeout pages. But then a page of two will be normal again - 12:00-ish UK time

Some delay when giving.a reply but in general on the phone there hardly is a delay, it seems normal.

Android that is!

This is indeed a very strange issue. Sometimes when here are many reports of slowness, it might work perfectly for me. And on the other hand today there are no reports about slowness and yet for me it is now quite bad.

This is really annoying now. Just now I tried to update this thread and it failed to connect and I lost my update  I said I wondered if it was a DNS issue so revamped my DNS courtesy of Gibson Research but it made no difference! Currently this is the only website I use which regularly has issues!
