Cumulus has stopped updating the Jan10log.txt File

Cumulus has stopped updating the Jan10log.txt file at 8.30am this morning.
..... this was after I noticed it had again forgotten to download the overnight data when I switched on this morning. This has happened before but not for a while (forgetting the overnight data). I have downloaded the data using Cumulus2 and that is fine so the data is there in the Weather Station.
Extract from current Jan10log.txt file showing last download last night prior to switching my computer off for the night, and the first data download this morning.

The graphs seem to show the activity during the day, but this is not being recorded in an10log.txt file......

When you started Cumulus at 07:24 this morning, it was unable to read, or unable to process, the timestamp from the today.ini file, so it used the default of the current time (hence no history was downloaded):
2010-01-28 07:24:20 : Read today file: Date = 27/01/2010, LastUpdateTime = 1/28/2010 7:24:20 AM
Unfortunately, I don't know why it had a problem with the timestamp. The latest build logs a bit more info in this situation. Could you attach the today.ini file from the backup that was taken at 07:24, please?
The other problem is very odd. The last thing in the latest diags log is:
2010-01-28 08:30:01 : Writing todayfile, LastUpdateTime = 1/28/2010 8:30:00 AM raindaystart = 2471.69995117188
2010-01-28 08:40:00 : Cumulus closing
2010-01-28 08:40:00 : Writing todayfile, LastUpdateTime = 1/28/2010 8:30:00 AM raindaystart = 2471.69995117188
2010-01-28 08:40:00 : 8:40:00 AM EWUSB: HidControl Device Unplug
Which says that you closed Cumulus down at 08:40 and haven't run it since. Clearly it is running, it's updating your web site. The fact that your jan10log.txt is apparently not being updated, and there is no diags log after 08:40 suggests to me that you are currently running Cumulus in a different folder. Is that possible? Or maybe for some reason the files are being put elsewhere (but you're running XP, so that seems unlikely). Perhaps you could do a search on your PC for another jan10log.txt.

Steve,
I really am puzzled now. After getting in (been out for the evening) and reading your last message, I decided to close Cumulus for nearly an hour and then restart it. Checking the Jan10log.txt file I now find Cumulus has updated it for the full day from 08.30 so I have I now have the full data set for the day right back to when I switched the computer on this morning and am only missing the overnight data.
I had closed and opened Cumulus earlier in the day with no success in getting it to update Jan10log, but leaving it closed for a period seems to have triggered it to save the full data set from 0830 onwards.
So I am only left with the the puzzle of why it failed to download the night-time data......
by the way I am using Windows 7 and furthermore the data is being saved to C:\Users\geoffw\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Cumulus
I use Easysync for Files to backup the Content of the cumulus Folder to My Documents every few days.
Here is the file you requested.

Just switched on and loaded Cumulus and it worked fine this morning logging al the expected data for the night-time period when my system was switched off!

That explains why you weren't seeing your data, it was being written somewhere you weren't expecting. Perhaps you were been running it 'elevated', on that occasion so Cumulus will have been writing the data to the installation folder instead of the 'virtual store'. Perhaps you have two different ways of starting Cumulus, and one of them starts it elevated. Or perhaps you were running it as a different user...

I've done a system search for any other instances of "Jan10log.txt" and can only find my backup files in "My Document" and those in the Data/backup folder of C:\Users\geoffw\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Cumulus.
Obviously I did something to stop the file updating yesterday morning, but can't think what it was. Anyway things seem back to normal this morning.
This leaves me with the problem of what to do when I turn off my system over-night and it does not pick up the overnight data. I know this is a rare occurence and I usually find Cumulus very stable, but it has happened to me more than once. Is there a Wiki entry (I can't see it) that tells you how to react to this situation and 'rescue' the data staight away?
Cheers Geoff

Each time Cumulus starts, it takes a backup of the currently active files into a folder in the 'backup' folder. You can 'rewind' to the state just before you ran Cumulus by stopping it and copying the files from the latest backup into the data folder, then starting Cumulus again. It's possible that it might work the second time - as I have no idea what's causing it, it's hard to say. It's possible that it's related to Cumulus being in the Program Files hierarchy, but Windows 7
should deal with that.

Thanks Steve - I've made a note of how to use the backup file in the event of another problem. As for WHERE the datafile is stored, I think I'll stick with letting Windows 7 choose its home and let you know if I have any other 'odd' events.

Have you checked that the data is recorded on the weather station? Similar happened to me and there was no data in the station - I surmised that the link between transmitter and station had been dropped (I may have re-sited the station too close to my computer)
Alternatively, if you put your computer into hibernation or sleep and did not have "close on suspend" selected it causes what you report (also happened to me). In this case, as Steve suggests, copying the last backup file before 27/01/10,22:45, should load the missing data (worked for me).

Yes I downloaded it successfully with cumulus2....

Everything is connected and hasn't been moved or tampered with recently, bu I've made a note of how to reset Cumulus to look again at it so When it next happens .......
