Hi Mark,
Very pleased to report that your modified gauges.js solves the two problems. Happy days! Thank you once again for your contributions to our group.

OK, but it's a bit of a kludge. If you want to retain compatibility with the released file then you may have to add a .htaccess file to the scripts folder on your web server. This will make the web server return the file encoding as utf-8 to match the file encoding.
Code: Select all
<Files "gauges.js">
AddCharset UTF-8 .js
</Files>
Though if the .htacess file is in the gauges.js folder, it's content could probably be just...
But I'm no expert in these files!

Mark, I already have an .htaccess file in the root folder. I'm attaching a screenshot.
Do I need a separate one in the scripts folder?

You could add the values to your existing .htaccess file in the root, but you would need the full path to the gauges.js in the files filter. I'm not sure how the paths work in htaccess, you'd have to look it up - I suspect they are relative to the html root folder, but I'm not 100% on that.
Simpler, but messier (another file to track) to add it directly into the script folder.

I clearly need to do something because on my iPad I still have the crazy temp and odd symbol.
I’ll create a .htaccess file in scripts and paste the info you supplied. I’m no expert on this so will tread carefully.
More later.

Best to put the .htaccess in your scripts directory like you are planning to. It reduces the scope of the rules you define to just that directory.
Your iPad will be using a cached copy of the script - Apple devices seem to cache things forever. So you will need to clear your cache.

Thanks Freddie. I’ll do that later. Things are okay again on both iPad and Windows. Yes, I had to delete the website data for my site on the iPad.
I want to ask HostPresto if they change anything regarding encoding. They shouldn’t really.

I created an .htaccess file and pasted this into it...
AddCharset UTF-8 .js
Saved it and transferred it to the scripts folder. Could some kind person check if it looks okay please?

Have you deleted the cookie for all three? What devices and OS?

I had done a [ctrl][F5} on all. Now tried it on my tablet and shows as °C so looks like you're all good.
Enjoy,
Paul

Excellent. Thanks chaps.

Hopefully I can put this to bed now and find something else to worry about.

There’s a problem with the countdown if I switch to another app on my iPad and then return to the gauge page.
The countdown goes daft and counts down with increasing negative numbers. Anyone else seeing this and if so, how to correct it?
