Thanks Hans, yeah I saw that last night when it happened, trellis down and the BBQ halfway across the garden is the damage so far, crazy sauce, now we have a yellow snow / ice warning going into tomorrow

If the damage is not beyond that, it's all we want as weather amateurs isn't it

We got away with it down south. Min pressure was 993mb now rising and max gust was 48.8 at 05:21. Only had 0.7mm rain overnight. Many folks not so lucky up north!

That's the 'best' part - most of the damage so far was last night and first thing this morning - but the weather warning only came into effect at 10 \o/

Nothing too bad here, the lowest pressure was 977.8 hPa at 05:11, and the max gust 43 mph @ 03:57. It's still windy - and annoyingly recycling bin day, so the front garden is now full of paper and plastic bags - but nothing exceptional, it's just picked up a bit again and we had a 42 mph gust. Like Ray I'm just outside the amber zone.

Somewhat surprised the highest gust was just 45mph this morning. Lowest pressure was 978hPa at 05:24. Pressure now rising quickly as the storm moves NE.

Wind is the only record that concerns me. If anything was to happen to the anemometer it’s impossible for me to get to it. And a friend who can go up there is not getting any younger.

we had 958.7 hPa 06:54 today with highest Gust at 50mph. though I am somewhat sheltered by other surrounding houses, trees etc so not entirely out in the Open.

Just seen this news this morning from the Met Office tweet.

A mean sea level pressure (MSLP) of 948.1 hPa was recorded at Magilligan as Eowyn moved past

This is the lowest MSLP value across Northern Ireland since at least 1900- and a record for the month of January

You were very lucky. How high is your anemometer? Is that your highest gust?

Yes that was my highest gust. the location of my anemometer is not ideal. the landscape is mainly houses of all shapes and sizes and has shelter from nearby trees too. I could possibly put it on the roof, but then Davis anemometers aren't the best for longevity and it would bee brought down again maybe 1every 1-2 years for maintenance or replacement.

I'm not as young as I was, so heights for me aren't a thing any more:) The coast is about 2 miles away and they had approx 70-80 mph gust.

Simon, I’ve had a Davis anemometer for around five years now and it seems okay. It uses a magnetic sensor as opposed to a reed switch. Big difference.

We had an "exciting" passage up to Bangor this summer, the liferaft broke free and we had to avoid the RNLI rescuing another boat off the Isle of Man. I saw the swell in the Irish sea was over 6.5m this week (Dublin bay data bouy), that would be "interesting"!

For those familiar with the Shipping Forecast this was issued ahead of the storm. Note the use of phenomenal. Wow!

Both areas are to the west of Ireland so right in the middle of the storm.

An 11.5m swell off the Shannon coast I believe. I looked at the limited buoy data available and it showed around 11m, but with one reading of 24.5m! I'm sure that must have been wrong.

75ft waves. With Force 12+ it does seem possible.
