Migrate weatherlink.com data?

Post by AberDino »

Unfortunately, after 13 years of continuous service, my WeatherLink IP data logger stopped working on the 1st January. After a bit of research, I found out that this device has been discontinued, and the recommended upgrade path is the WeatherLink Live hub. I purchased this device on the 2nd January and my setup was operational again on the 3rd January.

I now have two devices in the weatherlink.com portal, the former WeatherLink IP data logger with all the historical data up until the 1st January, and the WeatherLink Live hub with the new data. In an ideal world, I'd like to migrate the historical data to the new device, but that does not seem possible.

I have a Pro subscription linked to the WeatherLink Live hub (so Cumulus MX has access to historical data), which means it is possible to import historical data. However, the Davis instructions are based on having access to the historical data on their WeatherLink software on a PC or Mac, which I do not have, because I've never used that software. I initially used "Weather Display", and in 2016 I switched to Cumulus. I'm currently on the latest Cumulus MX 4.3.3 b4070, including all the historical data since November 2011.

From the Davis instructions, it appears that the file which can be imported to weatherlink.com is a txt file, presumable with comma separated values, but I don't know what the required fields or intervals would be (daily figures would be fine as far as I'm concerned, as that will give the historical highs, lows, etc.). Is anybody aware of a way to import historical data from Cumulus MX to weatherlink.com? Thanks in advance.

The WiFiLogger would have been a direct replacement to the Davis WeatherlinkIP and works with Cumulus https://www.komokaweather.com/cumulusmx/index.htm

Code: Select all

I am not aware that there is a way to import data to WL.com except from the WeatherlinkPC .wlk converted files that the historical import process does.. I presume you have read the import instructions -

Code: Select all

Import
Import historical data from the WeatherLink Computer Software to the WeatherLink Cloud. Before you begin, please make sure that you have already installed all of the sensors you intend to import data into and that your WeatherLink Live settings below are correct.

Note: You will need to upgrade your WeatherLink Live to Pro or Pro+ to access historical data. However, if you import data and your WeatherLink Live is not upgraded, the data will still be used in the “Almanac” area of the WeatherLink mobile app, where highs and lows for years, months, and days are shown.

For a detailed walkthrough of the import process, download the instructions.pdf.
https://www.weatherlink.com/static/docs ... ctions.pdf

p.s. since you have the WeatherlinkIP datalogger did you set it up to also upload to Weatherlink .com ?

Code: Select all

API Token v1
Use for WeatherLink data loggers (WeatherLinkIP, WeatherLinkUSB, and WeatherLinkSER), and Vantage Connect.
Enjoy,
Paul

Hi Paul,

I did consider third-party retrofits (including Meteobridge NANO), but after reading various posts on this forum and considering the cost difference, I decided against it.

My WeatherLink IP logger also uploaded to weatherlink.com, so that data is all there. It's the same physical site and same outdoor ISS, but the data sets are treated separately because the IP logger and WLL hub have different device IDs. I'm mainly interested in the historical highs/lows/averages when I use the WeatherLink app, so it's not a big deal if that data cannot be imported.

I've read the import instructions, and because it is a txt file I'd like to think there is something I can do. I'm also in discussions with Davis support.

Thanks

In the past Davis have migrated some users data from an old station on weatherlink.com to a new one.

If you contact them and explain you have upgraded to a WLL and could they migrate the data from the old station, there is a (small?) chance they may do it for you. Supply them with all the information they need - which will be the station-ids on weatherlink.com of the old and the new stations. You can find the device ID on the Device Info page, it looks something like: 001D0A71268A

Thanks Mark, I did provide them with that information and explained that I had upgraded to a WLL, but the response I got was "we do not have a way to import from the old device on weatherLink.com". Sounds like that's not necessarily correct ;) .

It may be correct, the previous times they may have been migrating from one new type station (WLL, WLC) to another one - I don't recall the details. The new stations do store the data very differently from the old VP2 WeatherLink PC/IP logger uploads.
